Target: Baljit Ubhey, Chief Crown Prosecutor

Goal: Punish boy who allegedly brutalized a cat for attention on social media.

A young man reported to have kicked a cat and posted the spectacle to social media has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty. Police apprehended the suspect after public outrage caused the video to go viral on Facebook. After over 1,000 shares and widespread public criticism, the young man in the video, a 16-year-old from Lewisham, London, has been arrested.

The video in question showed a young man approach a cat and begin to pet it. As the cat started to walk away, the teen stood up straight and kicked the cat in the stomach. With a sickening sound, the cat was sent flying across the driveway. On the Facebook post, the teen linked his Snapchat account in an effort to gain more followers.

This type of shocking abuse against animals on social media has become all too common. A similar video from the U.S. showed a teen kicking a cat so hard that it was sent cartwheeling through the air. Another showed a man pouring boiling water on a cat outside his window.

In order to stop people from abusing animals in the interest of gaining notoriety on social media, a tougher stance must be taken against the perpetrators of these crimes. By punishing animal abuse more harshly, authorities can effectively deter potential abusers. Sign the petition below to demand that the person found guilty of this cruelty is punished to the fullest extent of the law.

Dear Mrs. Ubhey,

A recent viral social media post showed a young man luring a cat toward him and kicking it across a driveway. The post included the poster’s Snapchat name, suggesting that this cruel act was done in the name of internet fame. This type of cruelty is becoming all too common, with people across the world posting similar videos of cruelty toward animals. One man in the U.S. even posted a video of himself throwing boiling water on a cat that was standing outside his window.

Committing animal cruelty in hopes of creating viral content is deplorable and must be punished accordingly in order to deter the growing number of people doing so. By punishing the person in this video harshly, you would be setting a strong example for other teens who may consider seeking attention in this manner. We, the undersigned, ask that you seek to punish the person responsible for this abhorrent act to the fullest extent of the law.

hmm…what could happen to this attention-crazed teen that we could post on social media, so everyone gets the message that this is a REALLY BAD idea?!

  4. What a pathetic excuse for a human being. What a big man…he can kick a cat , he could probably do worse and probably will if someone doesn’t stop the miserable sociopath right now. Just a little attention seeking asshole…there are plenty of us who would have no problem giving him plenty of attention. He wouldn’t kick anything again.

  5. Kathy Khoshfahm says:

Baljit – Please use your position and influence and send this young man to prison. The Animal Kingdom are citizens of this Earth and they deserve our respect and protection. Please take the lead and hand down a sentence that fits the crime! If I had my way, I’d remove him from the gene pool…

  7. What do they mean, “suspicion” of abuse???!!!!! Since when did videos record IMAGINED images????!!!!! SO SICK TO DEATH OF ALL THESE EXCUSES to not rightfully punish all these sickos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If that were my kid, he’d be unceremoniously & LITERALLY kicked to the curb for good!!! Where are this monster’s parents, that they seemingly don’t know about the crime their evil son committed???

We also need lots more petitions demanding these lackadaisical social media companies forcefully BAN any & all animal-abusing pictures or videos! Why does no one have any WORKING consciences these days????

  8. Respectable and decent societies would NEVER tolerate such behavior !! — We must STOP cruel, abusive & negligent acts against animals — we must STOP irrational, insane, sadistic & merciless behavior by individuals who belong in rubber rooms — the punishment & penalties should be severe — throw them in prison — society MUST teach that irrational & heartless abuse against animals will NOT be accepted — thus, we will have NO REPEATS of such brutal cruelty against animals.
