Shut Down Cruel Animal Chasing Game at Fair

Target: Phil Bryant, Governor of Mississippi

Goal: Shut down cruel animal chasing games that let children grab terrified rabbits by their ears, causing injury.

Children chase rabbits and pick them up by their ears as part of a game at the Tippah County Fair & Livestock Show in Mississippi–an activity that has come under fire from animal rights groups. The games, known as “animal scrambles,” encourage children to behave not unlike hunters, treating the animals as prey and as prizes for capturing them the fastest. This is not only traumatizing for the rabbits, but physically dangerous; rabbits who are picked up so brusquely suffer injuries such as broken cartilage and spinal fractures.

This is not fair to the rabbits, who live their natural lives running in fear from wild predators already. Other animals are employed as pawns in the scrambles, but it is the use of rabbits that has the animal rights group the angriest due to the fact that rabbits are fragile and easily spooked, and these games are a more controlled simulation of the horrors they face in the wild.

Children should not be encouraged to treat living creatures this way. These games are little more than sanctioned animal cruelty. Sign this petition to demand the state shut these games down immediately.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Governor Bryant,

A fair taking place in Mississippi is abusing rabbits in one of their games by encouraging children to chase and capture them. This has led to the rabbits being badly injured and traumatized, and has earned the fair much ire from animal rights groups. Rabbits are too fragile and easily frightened for such rough treatment–they face enough danger in the wild as it is.

Please demand that the fair shut the games known as “animal scrambles” down for good. Rabbits deserve better than to be treated as pawns and prizes for children who don’t know how to handle them correctly.

Sincerely,

  4. Enough of psychopaths and irresponsible kids in the society already. Please do not promote such a stupid and ridiculous fair that serves no good purpose and value. Animal cruelty is not welcomed in this century!

You know it never ceases to amaze me the thinking of some people and the Government. Yes the Government they can pass laws to stop any of these cruel actions. They claim a parent can’t spank a child because that is abuse. Abuse breeds abuse they say. So tell me does animal cruelty not breed animal cruelty. To bad these idiots can’t figure this out. Of course I suppose stupidity breed stupidity or indifference breed indifference. I think we see the truth in that in Government and many adults.

  7. WHOEVER CAME UP WITH THIS DESERVES TO BE CHARGED WITH ANIMAL CRUELTY ! DESPICABLE !
IMAGINE THE EXTREME STRESS CAUSED TO THE PETRIFIED ANIMALS ITS INHUMAN. THE PRAT/S RESPONSIBLE SHOULD BE FIRED, WHAT SORT OF MESSAGE DOES THIS GIVE TO KIDS !
    DAMNED IDIOTS.

  8. Rabbits, broken ear cartilage, fractured spines, skin potentially separating from the rabbits’ backs… The ignorance. Multiple rabbits thrashing, some dropped, more terror. Is particularly traumatic for prey species like rabbits. Great. WHAT is wrong with these people…enjoying a good day of mindless abuse at the fair??? Surely you can find some other way to have your “fun” or have you gone mad. Oh, I see…it’s always been done so that makes it ok. Well it isn’t…. That something is a “tradition” doesn’t make it right. Nothing to say outdated practices, based on misunderstanding and ignorance, can’t be dispensed with in a flash. These animals are not OBJECTS folks, they are living things…really, the overwhelming arrogance. “Scrambles”, a name invented to sugar coat “torture”. Animals are sentient, conscious, and should be treated as such…
