Target: Jonathan Jarvis, Director of National Park Service
Goal: Do not refill Constitution Gardens pond with fish after heat wave killed thousands.
A heat wave struck Washington D.C., resulting in the deaths of thousands of fish. These fish lived in the Constitution Gardens pond at the National Mall.
Due to the shallow depth and illogical layout, the pond is not suitable to sustain life, especially during heat waves. Thousands of fish died back in 2013 after another heat wave hit D.C. It is illogical and irresponsible to continue to fill the pond with fish when the inevitable deaths will eventually recur.
Fish are smart and unique animals that form relationships and show affection toward each other. Sign this petition to demand the National Mall spare thousands of lives by not restocking the Constitution Gardens pond.
Dear Mr. Jarvis,
Recently, a heat wave struck Washington D.C., and as a result thousands of fish died in the Constitution Gardens pond at the National Mall. Back in 2013, thousands of fish were also killed due to a heat wave. It is clear that this pond is not built to sustain life.
The shallow depth of the pond makes it impossible to sustain life at such high temperatures. Heat waves are inevitable and by restocking the pond, you are promising thousands of fish certain death.
Please do not restock the pond with more fish. Doing so is irresponsible, illogical and cruel.
