Target: C. Douglas Mcmillon, CEO of Walmart Inc.
Goal: Stop selling pesticides with bee-killing neonics and begin selling products that are friendly to pollinators.
Bees are rapidly dying as a result of colony collapse disorder, which has been found to be directly linked to pesticides that use chemicals known as neonicotinoids, or “neonics.” Since the revelation of the link between neonics and bee disappearance, many major companies and retailers have pledged to stop using products with neonics in them.
Major retailers such as Lowes and Home Depot have stopped carrying neonicotinoid pesticides to help the efforts to restore hive populations. However, other major name retail stores such as Walmart have continued to carry neonic pesticides despite the current epidemic bees are facing. To date, over 70 retailers have made their pledge to carry bee friendly products, which is much more significant than many people may think.
If it weren’t for bees, we wouldn’t have nearly any of the produce we see on our shelves and many food products would be gone before we knew it, so it’s very important to keep bee populations stable. If the rest of the world’s major retailers don’t catch up soon, then we may continue to suffer huge die-offs in bee populations, which spells trouble for planet Earth and the rest of humanity. Demand that Walmart stops carrying these toxic pesticides and to begin carrying products that are bee friendly.
Dear C. Douglas,
Without bees, humans would have next to nothing to eat in the line of produce. Bees are the world’s biggest pollinator and responsible for so much more than we tend to give them credit for. Right now, their population is in serious decline and it’s due to products made by companies you carry, such as Bayer. Bayer is one of the leading deniers of the link between colony collapse and neonic products. They’ve even funded studies to try and discredit the link–studies which have since been disproved.
The longer you continue to carry products that aren’t bee-friendly, the more danger you put bee populations in, not to mention the future of Earth. Without bees, the ecosystem on Earth would collapse as we know it. This isn’t conspiracy talk, either–bees really are that important to our species and the planet at large. If Walmart wants to be on the right side of history for once, you will immediately discontinue carrying products made by Bayer and other products that aren’t bee-friendly.
