Target: Joseph Stanzione, Greene County District Attorney
Goal: Shut down zoo where wounded animals live in cramped and feces-filled cages, and send them to accredited sanctuaries.
Animals suffering from open wounds and confined to cramped cages deserve to be released to a suitable sanctuary. The residents of the Bailiwick Ranch and Animal Park, a zoo in Catskill, New York, are suffering physically and mentally from reportedly being kept in cramped cages and deteriorating enclosures and being given improper veterinary care. Reporters from Times Union found animals with open wounds in rusty and feces-filled enclosures.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has already penalized this zoo twice for animal welfare violations, but this is not enough. In July, the USDA fined Bailiwick $1,350 for failures “to maintain housing facilities in good repair to protect the animals from injury.” Yet, conditions have reportedly not changed and it seems as though no efforts are being made by management to ensure the animals’ safety. This facility must therefore be shut down to stop these innocent animals’ suffering.
Sign this petition urging local officials to take measures to protect animals by shutting this zoo and sending its residents to accredited sanctuaries where they may recover from this poor treatment.
Dear Mr. Stanzione,
Animals are reportedly suffering from open wounds and being kept in flimsy, cramped and feces-filled cages at the Bailiwick Ranch and Animal Park in Catskill. Times Union reporters and locals have revealed the lack of care given to this zoo’s animals, and the filthy conditions they are being subjected to. The USDA recently fined this zoo and has penalized it once again for animal welfare violations. Clearly this is not enough and conditions are not getting any better for animals trapped in this facility.
Please do everything in your power to ensure this zoo is immediately shut down and its resident animals sent to accredited sanctuaries where they can begin to recover and receive the care and conditions they deserve.
