Denounce Lax Punishment for Woman Who Abandoned Dog

YellowLabradorLooking_new via Havj

Target: Andrew S. Robinson, Lewiston District Attorney

Goal: Condemn lax sentence for woman who left her dog outside in the cold to die.

A woman who abandoned her dog, leading to its death, has been handed down a $500 fine and a 90-day suspended sentence, meaning she will not serve any jail time. Sarah Vye, a 22-year-old Maine resident, pleaded guilty to animal cruelty in relation to the case. This lax sentence was handed down despite police advocating for the maximum punishment possible under the law, which would have been 264 days in jail and a $2,000 fine.

According to the investigation, Vye abandoned the dog outside of an animal shelter while it was closed. She did not make any effort to secure the dog with a crate or a leash, leaving it to wander in freezing temperatures. The yellow Labrador was found dead on the side of the road three days later after being hit by a car. After calling in to a local radio station, she called herself an “animal lover,” but said she could no longer take care of the dog.

A pet is a long-term responsibility that must only be taken on by dedicated and caring people. This insufficient sentence sends the message that abandoning pets in the freezing cold to die is an acceptable thing to do. While Vye will no longer be able to harm animals as she has received a lifetime ban on animal ownership, this sentence does nothing to deter future offenders. Sign the petition below to denounce this sentence, which devalues the lives of innocent animals.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Robinson,

Sarah Vye, who recently pleaded guilty to animal cruelty for abandoning her dog in the freezing cold, will face no jail time for her crime. Vye was seen on security cameras abandoning her dog in front of an animal shelter after-hours, not even bothering to crate it or leash it. The dog was found dead three days later, run over by a car.

Pets rely on their owners to provide the food, shelter, and care necessary to ensure their survival. This lax punishment sends the message that it is acceptable to abandon pets when they are no longer convenient to own, doing nothing to deter future offenders. We, the undersigned, condemn this unjust sentence, which places no value on the lives of innocent animals.

Sincerely,

  1. The cruel abandonment of an innocent dog (in the freezing cold) resulted in his death. Why isn’t the monstrous psychopathic human(?) given prison time?
What is wrong with the judge who allowed this pathetic subhuman to get away with such cruelty–with no deterrent to harming animals, again? The sociopathic judge is embarrassment to the profession, showing NO respect for animals. This sickens me.
The poor sad helpless dog suffered from betrayal and then was killed, wondering what he did wrong?
NO animal deserves this!! NO so-called human should get away with this horrific misjustice!

Until judges take this seriously, this is what happens. Personally the judge should be tied up on the side of the road, in winter, just to show him what it feels like. The woman ought to be tossed out an 8th floor building.

  2. QUÉ ES LO MALO QUE ESTÁ PASANDO CON LA GENTE???? QUE NO TIENE LÍMITES DE RESPONSABILIDAD NI ÉTICA, QUE NECESITA LEYES RÍGIDAS Y MINUCIOSAS QUE RESTRINJAN Y REPRIMAN EL COMPORTAMIENTO HUMANO ANTI ÉTICO PARA CORREGIRLO, QUE EN EL CEREBRO AÚN POCO EVOLUCIONADO DEL SER HUMANO AÚN EXISTEN MALAS COSTUMBRES, MITOS Y MIEDOS QUE TENEMOS QUE CORREGIR POR MEDIO DE CASTIGOS ANTE CONDUCTAS PSICOPÁTICAS COMO EL ABANDONO. NO PODEMOS SEGUIR TOLERANDO LA ARBITRARIEDAD Y LA INJUSTICIA. SÓLO MEDIANTE LA LEY Y EL CASTIGO LAS COSAS VAN A MEJORAR. EL SER HUMANO REQUIERE DE VIGILANCIA Y REPRESIÓN, DE LO CONTRARIO NO PASA NADA ANTE ESTAS CRUELES ACCIONES, Y EL COMPORTAMIENTO ANTI ÉTICO SE DESARROLLA E INVADE COMO CUALQUIER CÁNCER NUESTRO MUNDO, NUESTRAS SOCIEDADES Y MALTRATA A NUESTROS ANIMALES.

  3. Who did she know that she only got fined and suspended sentence. The poor dog got permanent sentence death under her uncaring care. Another POS. I cannot believe how uncaring our world has turned into.

  4. Cynthia Mattera says:

Sorry, jail time AND HARCHER FINES FOR THIS WOMAN! Her poor dog died alone, freezing, and killed by a car. Who ties a dog outside in freezing temps and drives away? Ill tell you who…a cruel, insensitive person!!! Lock her ass up!!!!

  5. WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS, SHE SHOULD BE MADE TO SUFFER, I HOPE SHE DIES IN PAIN WITH NOBODY TO HELP HER.

  8. What is the matter with our world which is so cruel, vile, evil, deplorable, inhumane and disgusting??

The monster who did this should have been severely punished and banned from ever having animals.

RIP POOR DOG ……OUR JUSTICE SYSTEM FAILED YOU AS IT DOES THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF TIMES. THIS STORY MAKES ME SICK AND MAD AS HELL.
