Demand County Fair Cancel Cruel Shark Show

Nurse Shark Dr. Mathew Gilligan

Target: Laura Murek, Event and Sponsorship Coordinator for Montgomery County Agricultural Fair in Maryland

Goal: Cancel cruel shark show at agricultural fair.

Haai Shark Encounter is a traveling shark show that goes to various fairs and events throughout the nation. These sharks are denied everything natural to them and are forced to endure large crowds and loud noises on a regular basis.

Haai Shark Encounter uses nurse sharks. Nurse sharks have never been involved in a fatal attack and typically shy away from humans. During this show, the sharks are forced to come close to humans and endure banging on the tank from the crowd. The event is chaotic, and the sharks have no choice but to withstand the disarray.

Unfortunately sharks are not protected under the Animal Welfare Act, which means they need our help even more. Sign this petition and demand that the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair cancel its plans with Haai Shark Encounter.

Dear Ms. Murek,

The Montgomery County Agricultural Fair is planning on hosting the traveling shark show, Haai Shark Encounter. Haai Shark Encounter travels the nation forcing nurse sharks into small tanks and chaotic situations.

Nurse sharks are known for being timid animals that try to avoid human interactions. In fact, nurse sharks have never been involved in a deadly attack. However, Haai Shark Encounter plays up the ignorant stereotype of all sharks being extremely dangerous and even opens the event with the ‘Jaws’ theme song.

During the show, the audience is encouraged to bang on the tank where the timid nurse sharks live. The event is loud, crowded and chaotic, and there is no way to escape this stressful situation for the sharks.

Please consider canceling your plans with Haai Shark Encounter. These animals should be out swimming in the open water, not forced to put on shows for humans.

  2. Malcolm Booth says:

Sharks are wild animals and should be left in the wild. If people want to see them their are great films and videos that they can watch. This “show” should be cancelled.

  3. Cynthia Mattera says:

Please do the right thing and stop the shark show. What a horrible life for this creature. To be moved all the time, confined to a small tank, and have people “bang” on the container. Imagine the fear and stress this poor shark endures, all for “entertainment”. Please cancel the shark show. Be compassionate and release him back to the ocean where he belongs!!!

  4. Stephanie Geyser says:

What do sharks have to do with agriculture? Why are they presented at an AGRICULTURAL show?

  5. Cecelia Nelson says:

ANY animal on this earth, IS NOT here for our “entertainment”. WE ABUSE, TORTURE, & KILL God’s precious animals, WHY? SHAME ON US!!!

  6. Amanda Brown says:

    Such A Stupid Roadside Show..Shut It Down…

  7. Lisa Zarafonetis Lisa Zarafonetis says:

    Signed & Shared.

  8. Please stop the Haai Shark Encounter from appearing at the fair. It’s cruel to catch these aquatic animals only to exhibit them in small tanks just for people’s amusement. It also sets the wrong example for the children that it’s all right to treat animals in this fashion, and it has no educational value whatsoever. Come into the 21st Century with your thinking.
