Target: Deputy Inspector Danielle E. Raia, Captain of NYPD’s 45th precinct
Goal: Thank the officers involved for their successful rescue of 22 dogs from dire living conditions.
The NYPD made headlines this week for saving 22 dogs from likely death. Numerous reports from concerned citizens helped officers track down the dogs who were living in their own filth in an SUV. The disoriented owner, who was found with the dogs, was a middle-aged woman who claimed to suffer from PTSD. She was taken to a medical center for treatment.
The rescue happened not a moment too soon, as temperatures were dangerously high that day. In addition to suffering from the heat, some of the dogs showed signs of other ailments. A German Shepherd, the largest of the dogs, was reported as being underweight. A Chihuahua puppy reportedly had to receive treatment for a serious intestinal condition.
Thankfully, all of the dogs survived the ordeal. It is truly fortunate that none of them succumbed to the heat or their health conditions. Thanks to the swift response of the NYPD and the involvement of several animal rescue operations, all of these animals have received the medical attention they need, and many of them have been placed in foster homes or adoption centers.
This story could have easily had a much darker ending had it not been for the actions of the officers who rescued these dogs from their deplorable living conditions. Thank the NYPD’s 45th precinct and everyone involved by signing the petition below.
Dear Deputy Inspector Raia,
I would like to commend your precinct for its officers’ heroic rescue of 22 dogs from horrifying living conditions. Without their quick response and collaboration with other officers and animal rescuers, these dogs would almost certainly have died.
The officers responsible have done a great deed, not only by rescuing the dogs from immediate danger, but by ensuring that none of them ended up in a city shelter where they would be at risk for euthanasia. By working with rescuers, who were able to find medical treatment and housing for these innocent dogs, the 45th precinct absolutely did the right thing. Thanks to everyone involved, they all have a chance to live healthy, happy lives safe from harm.
Please accept my heartfelt thanks on behalf of your precinct and the animal rescue organizations who stepped in to save these animals.
