Target: Todd Yates, Chairman of Davidson County’s Board of Commissioners
Goal: Ban dog tethering and severely punish owners who leave their dogs tied outside for long periods of time.
Countless dogs suffer from being chained outdoors for lengthy periods, sometimes their entire lives, even in extreme weather. These animals endure exposure to the elements as well as loneliness, frustration, and wounds caused by their tether. Yet this practice remains legal in Davidson County, NC. Neighboring counties have already begun to issue citations for dog tethering, but Davidson County continues to lag behind, according to local activists.
Not only do chained dogs suffer from weather conditions, isolation, and poor care, keeping them tied up can make them frustrated and aggressive, posing a risk to humans and other animals. County officials are considering eventually adopting an ordinance related to tethering, but this is not enough, as countless dogs continue to suffer due to being chained outdoors.
Sign this petition urging authorities to immediately ban dog tethering in the county, as well as introduce harsh punishments for people guilty of leaving their dogs chained outdoors for long periods of time.
Dear Commissioner Yates,
Dogs continue to suffer in Davidson County as no action has yet been taken to ban dog tethering. Chained outdoors for long periods of time, and sometimes for their entire lives, these animals suffer from exposure, loneliness, frustration and lack of care. This poor treatment and isolation can often make dogs aggressive, posing a threat to humans.
Please take urgent steps to ban dog tethering and introduce legislation implementing harsh punishment for owners found guilty of leaving their dogs chained outdoors for long periods of time. This is a matter of urgency, as countless dogs continue to endure this cruel treatment.
