Punish Amish Man Who Allegedly Beat Fallen Horse

Target: Ephrata, PA Police Chief William Harvey

Goal: Punish the Amish man who reportedly beat a horse until it collapsed and died to the fullest extent of the law.

An Amish man allegedly overburdened his horse by having it carry nearly a ton of watermelon and two grown men. When it seemed to have trouble carrying such a large load, the man walked along side the horse and struck it, punching and kicking the animal until it collapsed on the freeway, after which he then beat it some more. A woman who was driving by happened to see the incident and called the police, but when police and firefighters arrived, they failed in trying to save the horse’s life and the animal died right there on the freeway.

When police and firefighters arrived at the scene, they tried to revive the horse and cool it down, using over 1,000 gallons of water in an effort to re-hydrate the horse and get it back to stable condition. However, due to the extremely burdensome conditions it was placed under and the injuries sustained from being beaten by the Amish man, the horse was not able to recover and died shortly after collapsing. When abuse is so extreme that the animal can’t even recover from the injuries sustained, it’s time to implement federal animal abuse charges.

Police told the woman that the Amish are governed under different law and it would be difficult to prosecute the animal abuser. Demand that the police chief prosecute the Amish man under felony animal abuse charges to set an example that abuse is abuse, no matter who commits it.

Dear Chief Williams,

One of your officers reportedly told the woman who called the police on an Amish man for beating an exhausted horse that the Amish were not governable under Pennsylvania law and that they would be difficult to prosecute. This obviously was not the case as you were able to arrest the man under animal cruelty charges. However, these charges do not go far enough. In order to set an example for the Amish, and for animal abusers everywhere, it is only right that you charge this man with felony animal abuse.

Burdening a horse to the point of exhaustion and then beating it until collapses when it doesn’t carry the burdensome load is nothing short of felony animal abuse. The conditions were so bad that firefighters couldn’t revive the horse with over 1,000 gallons of water. Nothing about this crime is worth two small animal cruelty charges.

This man should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, regardless of his religious affiliation. It’s time the Ephrata Police Department send a message to Amish citizens across the state that they are punishable under the same laws as the rest of us, no matter their religious beliefs.

Amish or not, he must be punished. If the Amish want to live in a country, they must obey and accepts its laws.No exceptions!

  3. Pat Parran says:

The Amish have no respect for animals! They are notorious puppy mill owners and know to abuse helpless creatures.

Anyone that would beat a horse to death is a psychopath. Every effort should be made to imprison this sick subhuman freak! There are NO justifiable excuses for allowing this inhumane monster to roam free to harm other innocent animals and/or humans!

  4. SIMON PEARSON says:

I thought that Amish were supposed to be ” god fearing”….what sort of god !!

  5. Bunty Jackson says:

If this is an example of Amish religion then let us send them back to wherever they came from originally. People like this are just sickening and deserve to be treated in the same way. Give him a beating that is after he has walked for a mile carrying a ton of rubbish.
