Demand Maximum Punishment for Couple Who Abandoned Dogs

HarringtonsNYSPolice

Target: Superintendent Joseph A. D’Amico of New York State Police

Goal: Give maximum punishment to couple who moved out and left their dogs in unlivable conditions.

A couple moved out of their home and left their two small dogs behind to die because they couldn’t “take the dogs with them.” Neighbors complained that the abandoned home smelled of a foul odor and there were reportedly animals living inside. When the officers arrived at the scene they found two small dogs in a trashed house covered in feces and urine, living in what the officers called “unlivable conditions.”

The couple has been charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty, but this punishment does not go nearly far enough. Leaving animals to die in a pool of their own urine and feces is absolutely unacceptable and such a crime should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

If these had been their children, this couple would be facing life in prison, yet because we (for some reason) create a distinction between pets and children, this couple will only face a slap on the wrist. Any creature under a person’s care should be treated as their own child, so abandoning them to die in a house full of their own feces is absolutely unacceptable and should be treated the same as child abuse. Sign our petition to demand that the maximum punishment possible be pursued in this case if the couple is found guilty.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear New York State Police Superintendent Joseph A. D’Amico,

Animal cruelty is a very serious crime which should be treated as such, yet a couple who left their two dogs to die in a house full of their own feces and urine are being punished with a misdemeanor and a ticket. A ticket is something you get for a traffic violation or public urination, not something you get for being cruel to another living being, especially your own pets.

New York is a state with policies that can widely influence public opinion and other state laws. Since New York is such a widely popular state, any policy made there can have a ripple effect through the rest of the country. Setting an example by punishing these two animal abusers to the fullest extent of the law can help create a precedent in which animal abuse is treated on the same level as child abuse. This is not too far from a stretch, since both crimes involve taking advantage of a helpless being and preying upon its weaknesses.

Make New York a leader in the fight against animal cruelty and punish the Harringtons with the maximum punishment for animal abuse.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

Felony, no EXCUSES. BAN FROM ANY ANIMAL OWNERSHIP FOR LIFE. Scum of the earth.

Thanks you Mr.Perry, you have written an excellently worded and framed petition unlike so many other writers for Animal Petitions.I hope you continue to write many more!

  4. What has happened to our judicial system today?? When monsters do this to living breathing souls and get a mere slap on the wrist what does this tell other monsters about what will happen to them? It shows them that life is not worth anything and no matter how cruel and vile you are you get a minor punishment and go on your disgusting way to do more harm to some other poor animal.

We are all watching… and these two need to be severely punished by making an example of them so others will NOT follow suit. Jail them for at least a year, fine them a huge amount, ban them from ever having any animal and demand hey get psychiatric help as they are sick.

I hope the dogs find wonderful loving forever homes!!

These two dirtbags have basically gotten away with animal abuse – they left these two dogs to die with no concern whatsoever – this is a FELONY – when the hell with authorities wake up and start charging these maggots for the crime they committed? The authorities seem to feel animal abuse is like littering – They will do this again – wait and see.

  6. IT IS WAY PAST THE TIME TO MOVE ANIMAL NGLECT/CRUELTY TO THE PENAL LAW.
THESE PETITIONS DO NO GOOD REALLY, THEY ARE AFTER THE FACT AND DO LITTLE TO DISCOURAGED REPEATING THE ABUSE.
NYC ( NOT SURE ABOUT THE WHOLE STATE) HAS ANIMAL ABUSE/CRUELTY UNDER MERCHDISING LAW… WTF ?!
