Target: Cory Booker, Senator of New Jersey
Goal: Support requiring educational institutions to offer healthy, retired research animals to rescue shelters before euthanizing them.
Research institutions that experiment on animals may soon be required to offer cats and dogs no longer needed for experimental purposes to animal rescue organizations before euthanizing them. Urge legislators to put this law in place in an effort to save numerous animals.
While it is a sad fact that experiments still occur on animals, creating such a law would help to ensure that many retired research animals would be adopted out to loving families. Healthy cats and dogs that are no longer used for research, scientific or educational purposes should have—at the very least—the chance to live out the rest of their lives in peace.
Since institutions that are honest about the animal’s health conditions would be released from liability, not requiring educational facilities to take such steps is inexcusable. It is a sad fact that most animals used for experimental purposes are euthanized. Help to save as many of them as possible by signing this petition and demanding that this important bill be passed.
Dear Senator Booker,
A new state law is on the table which would require educational institutions to offer retired research cats and dogs to rescue organizations before putting them to sleep. Implementing such a law would help to ensure that many animals would not have to meet this horrible fate.
If the animals are healthy, there is no good reason why they should not be released to rescue originations that may be able to adopt them out. These animals deserve the chance to live out the rest of their lives in peace, and implementing this law would make that possible.
Additionally, educational institutions will not be at risk if such a law is implemented, as long as they are forthright about the animal’s health conditions before offering it to such an organization. Therefore, not supporting this bill would be irresponsible since this potential law would help animals, while at the same time, do no harm to research facilities.
I therefore urge you to support this bill in order to help prevent millions of healthy, adoptable animals from being euthanized. As a compassionate society, it is our duty to do everything possible to help these innocent creatures.
