Target: Tom Vilsack, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture
Goal: Ban atrazine, a chemical responsible for the sterilization of frogs.
Millions of frogs are being chemically castrated by the use of atrazine, a powerful and dangerous herbicide. Its chemicals disrupt their endocrine system, rendering them sterile and unable to breed to populate their species. To add salt to the wound, it is found in 80 percent of our drinking water. It is not only frogs who suffer from this fate–it is responsible for the deaths of many other amphibians, fish, and plant life.
The chemical is mainly used to treat the nation’s corn crop, which is already risky to humans who consume the corn. But wildlife is just as valuable as human life, and while frogs may not be considered as overtly useful or lovable as other animals by some people, they are an important part of our ecosystem and just as deserving of live. It is not fair to allow a dangerous chemical to destroy their reproductive systems and stop the furthering of their species. It is forced sterilization, which is already a cruel and unethical procedure.
Syngenta, the manufacturer of this chemical, is reportedly fighting every attempt to get it banned, denying its danger to living creatures and plants. We cannot allow them to do this. Their promotion and production of this chemical will destroy the frog population as well as severely damage the earth and our well-being. Sign this petition to demand the ban of atrazine.
Dear Mr. Vilsack,
The use of the herbicide atrazine is chemically castrating millions of frogs, leaving their species at possible risk of extinction due to them no longer being able to reproduce. It is responsible for the deaths of other wildlife and plants, and is dangerous to the humans who consume corn treated with it or drink the water contaminated by the chemical. The manufacturer of this chemical is reportedly fighting every attempt to get the chemical banned, downplaying and denying any dangers it poses to our environment and well-being.
Please push for the permanent ban of the use and production of atrazine. Help us protect the frog population from severe decline, as well as our environment and population from contamination by the dangerous chemical. We must not let Syngenta, the manufacturer, fight us on something that will protect this planet and all of its life.
