Ban Barbaric Live Animal Exports

live-animal-export-by-animalsaustralia

Target: Theresa May, British Prime Minister

Goal: Immediately ban cruel live exports where animals suffer horrific travel conditions for weeks before being slaughtered.

Cruel live exports continue in Britain despite overwhelming public condemnation of the barbaric trade. The first shipment of live animals recently arrived by truck to the Port of Ramsgate, in Kent, United Kingdom, from where they will be transported to foreign countries. The practice involves living animals raised in Britain being transported for weeks by ship, train and truck, often receiving inadequate food, water and care, to other countries to be slaughtered for their meat. While live exports were banned in 2012 after more than 40 sheep died, the ban was later overturned by the High Court.

Many animals do not survive being transported over such long distances. For instance, two sheep drowned at Ramsgate port in 2012, and 44 had to be destroyed the same year after they were found to be suffering from poor health. There is hope that Britain’s upcoming departure from the European Union could be an opportunity for the government to ban live exports.

Sign this petition urging the new British Prime Minister to use Brexit as a chance to alleviate animal suffering by banning live exports out of the U.K. once and for all.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mrs. May,

The barbaric practice of exporting living animals to be slaughtered abroad remains legal, despite the incredible cruelty involved. Exported animals suffer horrid conditions and inadequate food, water and veterinary care for weeks on end. Many succumb to the perils of the voyage. In fact, two sheep drowned at Ramsgate Port in September 2012 and 44 had to be destroyed after it was found that they suffered from a health issue.

While the practice was banned in 2012, this laudable decision was then overturned, making this cruel trade legal once again. Please use your influence to alleviate animal suffering by putting an end to live exports out of the U.K. once and for all.

Sincerely,

It is not only the horrible trip to a foreign country but also the way the animals are treated once they arrive.
Have people not seen the footage of individual sheep being forced into the boots of stinking hot cars and then to some disgusting home slaughter.
If money is all that these exporters care about then our world is a very sad place in which we live.
Alll live exports from every country including Australia and New Zealand plus Britain should be banned.

  4. A good leader not only cares for his/her people but also the welfare of the animals in general. Hope to see your live exports banned, this time for good.

This barbaric treatment of animals must be banned. Animals are not freight, they are living beings. these poor animals must suffer so much fear pain and terror. The abuse and torture they endure when they reach these countries is unthinkable. They are left without basic food and water, sold in markets which people buy for food to slaughter at home. These animals should be treated with compassion at the end of their life, what a horrible way to die at the hands of brutal savages. Stop all live animal exports for good.
