Ban Wild Animal Circuses Countrywide

Target: Theresa May, British Prime Minister

Goal: Implement an immediate countrywide ban on the use of wild animals in circuses.

A local council is considering banning wild animal circuses on its land. Cheshire West and Chester Council may join a number of other local councils in the United Kingdom who have already banned wild animal circuses.

This would be great news for animals, who suffer tremendously when transported from town to town, confined in cramped cages and brutally trained to perform unnatural and uncomfortable tricks. This move would also protect residents and businesses from danger and disruption were a wild animal to escape, as many have in past months.

According to campaign group Animal Defenders International, over 200 local authorities in the country have already introduced prohibitions on circuses’ use of wild animals. Rather than make each council go through the time-consuming process of implementing a prohibition locally, the U.K. government should vote for a countrywide ban.

Sign this petition urging the new U.K. government to take the necessary action its predecessor failed to and immediately implement a countrywide ban on wild animals in circuses.

Dear Mrs. May,

It is high time the United Kingdom banned wild animal circuses for good. Such a move would benefit the animals themselves who suffer while confined in small cages, transported from place to place and forced to perform tricks, as well as business owners and members of the public who face disruption and danger whenever a wild animal escapes from captivity.

A number of forward-thinking countries have already prohibited wild animal circuses, as have over 200 local councils across the United Kingdom. Please pass an immediate countrywide ban on the use of wild animals in circuses.

  1. Karen Eicholtz says:

Wild animals must be in the wild otherwise they are nothing more than living displays. Might as well kill them, stuff them and put them in a museum. To have a suitable life, wild animals are the ones who deserve a natural life not a cage, or a collar and chain.
Man has had his chance to share the earth with its other species and has failed miserably.

  2. Over the world, it should ban!!!
We all don’t need to see animals to be entertained!
