Target: Horacio Rodriguez Larreta, Mayor of Buenos Aires
Goal: Thank the city for deciding to shut down its zoo and retire all of its animals to sanctuaries.
The Buenos Aires Zoo has stood for 140 years and currently holds 2,500 animals. However, all of that is about to change. Officials recently stated that nearly all the animals held at the zoo will be relocated to wildlife reserves and the zoo will be transformed into an education facility that focuses on sustainability and the environment.
Animals held in captivity face many hardships. Most develop mental and physical problems due to their confinement. It is heartwarming to see this zoo’s change of heart and to let these animals live a more natural life. Sign this petition and thank the zoo for respecting these animals and giving them the life they deserve.
Dear Mayor Larreta,
Recently, the Buenos Aires Zoo announced that after 140 years, it will be retiring all of its animals and shutting down the zoo. The area will be turned into an education facility that focuses on sustainability and the environment, and the animals will be relocated to wildlife reserves.
Animals held in captivity typically develop mental and physical problems due to their confinement and lack of enrichment. It is heartwarming to see that people are beginning to understand and respect animals’ needs.
Thank you for deciding to retire all of the animals to wildlife reserves where they can live a more natural life. These animals lives are turning around for the better and I can only hope more zoos follow in your footsteps.
