Target: Barack Obama, President of the United States
Goal: Praise decision to spare countless animals the agony of chemical testing.
Countless animals across the U.S. will now be saved from undergoing cruel chemical tests. President Obama has signed the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act, which provides for current toxicity testing to be modernized by moving away from animal experimentation. This means that countless animals will be spared the distress and agony of having toxic substances injected into their bodies, rubbed on their skin or dripped into their eyes.
It is also great news for people, as animal-based experimentation is notoriously inefficient. Indeed, chemicals and products marked as safe for animals have harmed humans, since species can react very differently to the same substances. Modernizing chemical testing will involve moving away from cruel and outdated tests on animals in favor of safer, more humane and more efficient methods.
Sign this petition thanking President Obama and all other officials who helped pass this vital law.
Dear President Obama,
I would like to thank you and all other members of government who signed the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act into existence. This historic move will save thousands of innocent beings from the distress and suffering involved in animal testing.
Unfortunately, animals continue to suffer in scientific experimentation as a whole and while this landmark bill marks the beginning of a kinder future for them, it is vital to carry on fighting against all forms of animal testing. It is unimaginable that outdated and cruel tests are still carried out when far superior and more humane methods exist.
Please use the last few months of your presidency to protect more creatures from abuse by combatting all forms of animal exploitation, starting with animal testing in general.
