Target: Brian Colopy, President of Kalamazoo Growlers
Goal: Cancel cruel “Cowboy Monkey Rodeo Night,” where monkeys are strapped to dogs while they sprint around a track.
A baseball team in Michigan, the Kalamazoo Growlers, is planning on hosting a “Cowboy Monkey Rodeo Night” at its stadium. The event is exactly how it sounds and it is a terrifying ordeal for the animals involved.
At “monkey rodeos,” capuchin monkeys are strapped to dogs while the dogs sprint around a track. The dogs are also trained to make sudden stops which painfully jolts the monkeys in all different directions. Injury is very common during this event. In addition, this is all done while a crowd chants and screams. The chaos is extremely scary for the monkeys.
When the monkeys are not participating in the rodeo, they are held in cages and denied everything natural to them. It is a sad life and it is all for unnecessary “entertainment.” Sign this petition and demand the Growlers cancel the “Cowboy Monkey Rodeo Night.”
Dear Mr. Colopy,
Your team is planning a “Cowboy Monkey Rodeo Night.” The event is terrifying and painful for the monkeys.
The sudden stops and starts painfully jolt the monkeys in all possible directions. While the monkey is dealing with the stress of being strapped to an unpredictable dog, the crowd screams and chants which only makes the situation even scarier.
The event is completely unnecessary and by canceling it, these monkeys would be spared from terrible mental and possibly physical trauma. Please consider canceling this event for the well being of the monkeys. These monkeys belong in the wild, not strapped to dogs for human entertainment.
