Stop Killing Alligators

Target: Marylouise Fitzgibbon, General Manager of Walt Disney World Orlando

Goal: Stop killing alligators and protect visitors against attacks with humane methods instead.

Alligators are being culled near the Walt Disney World Orlando theme park after one snatched and killed a young boy. None of the five animals caught and euthanized so far have been identified as responsible for the attack. While the child’s death is a terrible tragedy, murdering these animals is completely senseless and will not bring the boy back. It will also not help protect future visitors to the park, as nothing stops more alligators from moving in to replace those killed.

Instead, the park should take steps to safeguard areas accessible to visitors and ensure they are properly warned about the risks. It should also implement humane measures of controlling the animals’ access to the park’s beaches.

Sign this petition urging Walt Disney World Orlando to stop having alligators killed and safeguard its visitors using more efficient and humane methods.

Dear Ms. Fitzgibbon,

Alligators are being needlessly culled near Walt Disney World Orlando after a young boy was tragically snatched and killed by one on the park’s beaches. While this incident is no doubt heartbreaking for all involved, there is no use adding to the tragedy by senselessly murdering animals in their natural habitat.

This is not an efficient method of protecting the public, as nothing stops more alligators from moving in to replace those killed. Instead, your park should warn visitors about the risk and find non-lethal ways of controlling alligators’ access to the park’s beaches.

Please ensure no more alligators are culled, and implement humane methods of curbing the animals’ access to the park’s beaches instead.

  1. Sydney Myers says:

This is Disney’s fault, plain and simple. They should either have put up more detailed signs and / or just have put a fence or some other type of blockade in between the tourists and the alligators. Instead, they blame the alligators for being alligators – i.e. doing what alligators do … and then kill several of them. Where are alligators supposed to live if they can’t even live in the water? And who doesn’t know that the water surrounding Florida has alligators? This is a tragedy that should never have happened. I’m sorry for the child and his family, but I’m also sorry for the alligators who are being blamed and senselessly slaughtered !!!!!!!!!!!

    my thoughts exactly

    why kill the animals?

leave adequate signage so people don’t wander because they think it’s safe

  4. Bev Woodburn says:

It is sad about the killing of the little boy. But these arseholes know of the dangers and yet they allow their kids to roam and not attending to their safety.
Why should all the Alligators be murdered because of the uncaring and lack of compassion human species cause towards other sentient beings?
