Target: Barack Obama, President of the United States
Goal: Immediately prohibit the import of hunting trophies that cause the deaths of thousands of innocent animals.
Trophy hunting is a barbaric and cruel activity that involves killing innocent creatures for fun and some mistaken form of glory. Yet, most countries still seem to condone this practice by allowing hunters to import their “trophies.” A report from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) reveals that Americans are by far the most common trophy hunters, and are responsible for killing half of all lions during the last decade. It also found that a large portion of animals killed were endangered species.
While the number of lions hunted for trophies per year tripled in the last ten years and the number of elephants killed more than doubled, the U.S. government is still allowing hunting trophies to be imported into the country. Instead, the country should follow countries such as France and Australia that have banned the practice.
Sign this petition urging President Obama to urgently act to protect wildlife by banning the import of murdered animal trophies.
Dear President Obama,
A report from the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) has found that half of the 1.7 million animal “trophies” exported across borders during the past decade were killed by hunters from the United States. Moreover, U.S. hunters also shot half of all lions killed during that period.
The report also found that a large portion of the trophies were endangered species. Despite these appalling figures and the Cecil tragedy last year, it is still legal to import the parts of murdered animals as trophies into the U.S.
Please take a stand for wild animals and immediately ban hunters from importing their animal trophies into the country.
