Justice for Cats Found Dead in Abandoned Cages

Target: Mick Cornett, Mayor of Oklahoma City

Goal: Find the person responsible for abandoning 24 cats to their death and enforce a maximum penalty.

Animal control officers found 24 dead cats crammed into four tiny cages in Oklahoma City. The cages were reportedly discovered in the tall grass near a road, and officers believe that they were thrown from a vehicle while the cats were still alive. According to the news reports, the decay of the bodies and the maggots in the cages make it likely that the cats had been in the field for about a week. These animals must have suffered unbelievable pain in that amount of time, and the person responsible for this cruelty must be found and held accountable.

The cages in which these cats were discovered were carrying-sized, meaning that they were designed to hold one animal at a time. Yet officers found three cats in the first crate, seven in the second, six in the third, and eight in the fourth. Two dozen animals should never be confined to four single-sized cages, and forcing these cats into such overcrowded quarters is an act of abuse on its own. The saddest part of this story, however, is the fact that these cats were left to die needlessly; the local animal shelter is available to take unwanted animals, and would have been happy to take in these cats so that they could find a new home.

Julie Bank, director of Oklahoma City Animal Welfare, has stated that the organization hopes to find out why this happened and who is responsible in order to “honor the memory of those animals that now are left in a pretty gruesome situation.” Whoever abandoned these cats could face felony charges, and must be held responsible for this act of unnecessary cruelty. Sign the petition below to urge Mick Cornett, the mayor of Oklahoma City, to make the investigation of this crime a priority and ensure that these cats receive the justice they deserve.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mayor Cornett,

Twenty-four cats were found dead in Oklahoma City after they had been crammed into four tiny cages and left by the side of a road. Animal control officers reportedly found the crates behind some tall grass, and believe that the cats were thrown from a vehicle while still alive. Based on the condition of the bodies and the maggots in the cages, these cats had likely been in the field for about a week.

The cages were carrying-sized and designed to hold one animal at a time, yet officers found three cats in the first crate, seven in the second, six in the third, and eight in the fourth. These animals must have suffered an extreme amount of pain before they died, all of which was needless – the local animal shelter gladly takes in unwanted animals, and would have helped find a new home for these cats.

Whoever is responsible for this unnecessary cruelty must be located and brought to justice. I am urging you to make this investigation a priority. Please take action to ensure that the person responsible for the death of these cats is discovered and faces felony charges.

Sincerely,

Who was the monster/s who jammed these cats into cages and then threw them out into the veld – shame on you for being so heartless – surely you could have found some alternative way of rehousing the cats if they were a problem

Whoever did this should suffer the same fate. Shove this or these pos in cage an let them die of exposure, hunger and thirst in the desert somewhere. Far away from civilization so they don’t disturb real human beings

find these killers and throw it in the fire
