Cancel Circus Show Accused of Abusing Animals

Circus AlejandroLinaresGarcia

Target: Matt Brown, Managing Director of Greensboro Coliseum Complex

Goal: Have venue cancel circus performance unless it performs without animals.

UniverSoul Circus is notorious for allegedly hiring entertainers who abuse and neglect their animals. Many reportedly even have recorded violations against the Animal Welfare Act. Despite all this, the Greensboro Coliseum Complex is moving forward with UnvierSoul Circus’ scheduled performances.

UniverSoul Circus’ current big cat trainer has admitted to keeping his cats trapped in their cages for 24 hours, seven days a week. The circus has also reportedly had animals escape twice. This puts the animals and public in danger.

Sign this petition and ask the Greensboro Coliseum Complex to cancel its plans with UniverSoul Circus unless it performs without animals.

Dear Mr. Brown,

Your venue is planning on having UniverSoul Circus perform. UniverSoul Circus has an extensive history of working with alleged animal abusers.

Currently, UniverSoul Circus’ big cat exhibitor has admitted to keeping his cats in their cages for 24 hours, seven days a week. The circus’ zebras have reportedly escaped on two occasions and its elephants have tested positive for tuberculosis. The circus’ carelessness puts the animals and the community in danger.

Please consider canceling your plans with UniverSoul Circus unless it performs without animals. These animals belong in nature surrounded by friends, not in cages and performing for audiences.

Anybody who thinks this sort of treatment is OK should be shut in a fucking cage themselves 24/7 and forgotten about.

  2. Greensboro Coliseum Complex, you are out-of-date with the times for the ethical humane treatment for animals! You are supporting animal abuse by letting UniverSoul Circus perform. They have always had a bad reputation for abusing animals. Animal entertainment is no longer excepted it is now taboo. Your venue must like being in the company of animal abusers! Low class…OUT-OF-DATE WITH THE TIMES! It is the 21st century where non-animal circus entertainment is now what is happening. Get with it.

  3. These circuses could’nt exist if it wasnt for the idiots who continue to visit them.
If no one went it would have to close down, so the visitors are as guilty as the ones who run it.

  4. Kae Blecha, OTR says:

Hey Matt, you need to talk to the people in St. Charles, MO, where 3 elephants rampaged in the parking lot for 45 minutes wrecking cars after they were frightened by loud noises. Come to think of it, circuses are loud all the time….If wild animals in circuses DON’T revolt, it’s just because they were beaten that much harder, and you’re condoning it by booking this act. If you don’t care about that, at least make sure your insurance is up-to-date.

  5. Beth Knalfa says:

UniverSoul is the epitome of cruelty! You are insane if you are hosting them at the coliseum. Make an intelligent decision. People DO NOT WANT ANIMAL ENTERTAINMENT, it is NOT entertainment, it is abuse. Have you not heard or seen what they do to these helpless beings? How can you live with yourself condoning the constant beatings these animals endure.

  7. Why is it that even though everyone has learned about the suffering endured by animals in circuses such as UniverSoul Circus, Greensboro Coliseum Complex officials are still planning to have this notorious circus perform?

For a long time now, UniverSoul Circus has been employing animal abusers who have been violating the Animal Welfare Act. For instance, Mitchel Kalmanson was cited two times within only four months. The cages were too small for the animals “ . . . to make normal postural adjustments . . . “, and even one of the handlers stated that the cats were confined to the cages 24 hours per day, all week long, for all four to seven weeks that they were on the road, and, at times, longer.

What’s worse, two elephants who are currently touring with the circus have previously produced five+ years of reactive tuberculosis tests, which indicate that they may very well be TB-positive. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, elephants, for instance, can carry TB and transmit it to the public, even without direct contact. These animals are putting the public, circus workers, and other animals at risk. And, we will never know whether these animals have TB or not because the USDA, in its infinite wisdom, no longer requires TB tests for animals in circuses or zoos even though there is a TB epidemic with elephants in the U.S. right now. Furthermore, zebras, part of UniverSoul’s act, have bolted from the circus two times in the past eight months, running throughout the streets.

Please cancel plans for UniverSoul Circus to perform at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex. Circuses are no fun for animals, and are a danger to the public. Thank you.
