Success: Maryland Becomes First State to Ban Dangerous Pesticides

Harmful pesticides that have contributed to the deaths of countless bees will no longer be allowed in Maryland thanks to a new state-wide ban. Starting in 2018, consumer use of neonicotinoid pesticides will be expressly forbidden, with only a few minor exceptions.

The legislation makes Maryland the first state to implement such a ban and comes as a result of worries that neonicotinoid pesticides are a cause of rapidly dwindling bee populations.
