Justice for Fatally Shot Mother Grizzly Bear

grizzly-bear-by-gregory-smith

Target: Mike Madel, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks grizzly bear management specialist

Goal: Stop the unjust killing of grizzly bears by using a different method to handle bear encounters.

Wildlife authorities shot and killed a female grizzly bear who had been killing a nearby rancher’s sheep. The bear was only 6.5 years old. Grizzly bears live to be 20-25 years old in the wild.

The grizzly killed sheep at the same ranch the previous year so she and her two cubs were relocated before making their way back to their original home. Female grizzly bears are not usually removed or killed until they have been in conflicts at least three times, but this bear was killed after just two.

This grizzly bear should not have had to die simply because a human decided to have a ranch near the bear’s territory. There must be other options besides killing these beautiful creatures. Demand officials come up with an alternate way to handle bear encounters so more grizzlies don’t have to die.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Madel,

Your team recently decided that the only way to handle a grizzly bear who kept having encounters with nearby sheep was to shoot and kill the bear. This bear was a mother of two and now she’s dead. Rather than waiting the normal three strikes or coming up with an alternate way to handle the bear, you chose to take an innocent animal’s life.

This is an unnecessary tragedy that must be prevented in the future. I urge you to please come up with an alternate way to handle bears in these kinds of situations rather than killing them.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  1. Just another government agency doing a shity job – only morons work for the government because they can’t think for themselves and have to told what to do, how to do it, when to do it, you get my point…. this ignorant type wildlife management will never stop. Shame on us humans.

Shameful. Selfish humans. Sort yourself out.

  3. Another animal killed at the whim of human’s. Why does the government of this country kill our wildlife as they see fit. Animals need to feed their young just as we do BUT ranchers allow their (for profit) animals to graze on public land and so the government kills anything and everything that would compete for food and shelter. Caring american’s need to stop the wholesale slaughter of our wildlife.

I’m assuming that the female grizzly didn’t attend the meeting and therefore didn’t know where the rancher’s property lines were. Not fair. Be aware that there’s social media now, and the cozy arrangements that rural Montanans have had with each other are going to be harder to keep secret.

No one should kill any animal because ppl move onto their land! All animals are precious
