Demand Jail Time for Alleged Repeat Puppy Mill Operator

Target: Keith M. Kaneshiro, Prosecuting Attorney for the City and County of Honolulu

Goal: Punish dog breeder accused of neglecting over 30 dogs and dumping dead and sick dogs in the trash.

Two dogs, one alive and one dead, were recently found in a Kahaluu, Honolulu garbage can. Reports say that the dead dog had been shot to death and the one left alive was anemic and severely emaciated. After obtaining a warrant to search the home where the garbage can was left out for collection, authorities uncovered a puppy mill.

According to animal control, over 30 small dogs were found in two separate rooms of the house. The dogs were left without food or water, and were forced to live in their own filth, said one rescuer. The smell was so horrendous that the officer reported her eyes burning from the ammonia fumes coming off of the dog waste.

The owner of the home, James Montgomery, is a part-time dog breeder who has previously been involved in similar cruelty cases. In 2005, police discovered 65 neglected dogs and one dead dog in his home. After pleading guilty to 55 counts of animal cruelty, a judge ordered the man’s animals returned to him.

Lax punishments such as these are obviously not helping to save animals from abuse or convince animal abusers to change their ways. Had this man been properly punished for his crimes in the past, the 33 dogs recently found could have potentially been saved from extensive suffering. In order to ensure this man does not re-offend, it is imperative that he is dealt with harshly this time around. Sign the petition below to urge the prosecutor to seek the maximum possible penalty, which includes jail time and a ban on owning animals in the future.

Dear Mr. Kaneshiro,

Over 30 dogs were recently found without food or water and living in shocking filth. The dogs were discovered after authorities received a report of two dogs thrown in the homeowner’s garbage can. The homeowner, James Montgomery, has prior animal abuse convictions but was previously let off the hook without so much as a ban on owning animals in the future.

Clearly, treating animal cruelty crimes as unimportant only serves to perpetuate animal abuse. In order to ensure that this man does not re-offend, he must be punished to the fullest extent of the law. We, the undersigned, ask that you seek jail time for this man as well as a lifetime ban on animal ownership.

  1. Kill all animal abusers, that will solve the problem and save animals, it needs to happen worldwide. If you abuse an animal you die.

  2. How many more animals have to suffer before you lazy ass people get off your butt and do something about this abuser? Christ how can anyone trust you to ever do your job right if you have no empathy for the voiceless? Ban this POS from ever owning animals ever again!

  3. melanie rampeearee says:

This thing is a reapt offender and after what he continues to do, just for money, he should have a lifetime ban from owning anymore animals and he deserves jail time so he can think about how he treated and killed those poor defenceless animals!

  4. If the judge just gives him another slap on the wrist and allows him to continue his torturing of innocent animals, put him, bound and gagged in a body bag, then in a dumpster
in a remote area where no one will ever find him so he can feel the same terror and helplessness he subjected these innocent dogs to. Maybe the judge should suffer the same fate if he lets him off easy again.

  6. Barbara Griffith says:

This nutcase is a animal hoarder is what he is. He was caught doing the very same thing a few years ago time for either a jail cell or a strait jacket. Doctors now consider hoarding a mental illness so lets lock him up at least he won’t be hoarding anymore small dogs ever again. People like this mental case keeping on with the neglect and cruelty because they are never held accountable for their actions no matter what they are caught doing this side of murdering a human.
