Target: Jon Hale, Chairman of the Hereford Football Club
Goal: Do not allow the parading of live bull at football final, where he will be exposed to distressing crowds and loud noises.
A football club is planning to parade a bull in a large stadium during a sporting event final. The animal, named Hawkesbury 1 Ronaldo, is due to act as Hereford FC’s mascot and be exhibited as a prized possession. The football club doesn’t seem to have considered the fact that bulls are not only very intelligent animals who do not deserve to be used as mere objects for our entertainment, they are also sensitive animals who can be alarmed and stressed by crowds.
The sporting event will likely be noisy and very busy considering that Wembley stadium in London, where it is due to take place, has a capacity of 90,000 spectators. PETA UK has spoken out against plans to display the bull at the event, urging the club to “spare this bull the stress and misery of being paraded in front of thousands of screaming football fans.” Moreover, a terrified animal may also react unexpectedly and could harm staff or spectators.
Sign this petition urging the Hereford FC to reconsider exhibiting a live bull at a noisy sporting event and use a voluntary human mascot instead.
Dear Mr. Hale,
Please reconsider parading Hawkesbury 1 Ronaldo the bull at the football final at Wembley stadium. Bulls are sensitive animals who can be stressed by crowds and noise. A loud sporting event is no place for an animal, especially one who could react unexpectedly out of fear and harm spectators or staff.
Moreover, bulls and other animals are intelligent and sentient beings who exist in their own right and are not ours to use for entertainment or display as objects. I urge you to cancel the bull’s appearance at the match and spare him the frightening sight and sound of thousands of exuberant football fans.
