Thank Shelter for Saving Over 5,000 Kittens

Kitten Jessica Peralta

Target: Gregory Castle, CEO of Best Friends Animal Society

Goal: Thank animal welfare organization for saving over 5,000 kittens.

The Best Friends Animal Society in Los Angeles has saved over 5,000 kittens. This shelter had a kitten nursery built specifically for young kittens who need 24/7 care. The shelter has even received kittens with the placenta still attached.

Volunteers rub the kittens’ bellies to stimulate their bladders and bowels, bottle feed the babies and provide socialization. Constant care is critical for these kittens.

Kittens are a high risk population for euthanasia because there are so many and because they require constant care. The opening of the nursery has helped save thousands of lives. Sign the petition and thank the shelter’s dedication to helping these animals.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Castle,

Due to the overpopulation of stray cats in the Los Angeles area, kittens face a high risk for euthanasia due to the sheer number of them and their need for constant care. In response, the Best Friends Animal Society in Los Angeles opened a kitten nursery made specifically for young kittens who need 24/7 care.

Thanks to this nursery and the dedicated volunteers, over 5,000 kittens have been saved. Thank you for going to such lengths to save this high risk population. I hope more shelters are inspired by your actions and build kitten nurseries of their own.

Sincerely,

  3. Linda Colburn says:

Thus will be an ongoing problem until the cause is addressed. There need to be spay and neuter laws for pet owners and agressive programs to spay and neuter feral/stray cats(and dogs). It will save millions of animal lives. Its is criminally irresponsible to kill over a million pit bulls alone in this country(as I understand it) We kill millions of animals simply because they are “unwanted”. This is not humane or necessary. I am sick of the smarmy sympathy and failure to confront this as a situation that has a cause and a handling. ALL I see is one sad story after another but no real address to the millions not part of someone’s press release. We focus on the one that was saved not what we need to do to make these rescues unnecessary. I will commend those working on outlawing puppy mills. That is part of the solution. Lets demand large scale programs to eliminate breeding “unwanted” animals -cats, dogs, horses etc.

  4. Thanking you and your staff Mr. Castle for saving these precious kittens. The world needs more people like you in it.

  6. Linda you’re so damn right! I hear me saying exactly the same words over and over again. Only in german 🙂 Because that’s where I’m from.

Kittens are incredible sweet but what happend to them when they are not longer tiny and fluffy? Where are they going after their 24/7 care?

    • This is Best Friends Rescue possibly the best in the U.S. & responsible for saving the majority of the Michael Vick dogs. They are no kill so the kittens would as soon as they were old enough have been moved to the cat adoption room.

  7. Linda Barnett says:

I can only reiterate the comments made by Linda Colburn. Laws must be introduced to spay and neuter our animals, be they in ownership or strays. It is man’s responsibility to do right by all of our creatures and to avoid “unwanted” creatures being born and destroyed through no fault of theirs.
