Demand Jail Time for Man Who Allegedly Shot Dog in a Fit of Rage

Target: K. David Cooke, Jr., District Attorney for Macon, Georgia

Goal: Seek jail time for repeated animal abuser accused of shooting another man’s dog.

A Georgia man is facing several charges after allegedly shooting another man’s dog with a sawed-off shotgun in a fit of jealous rage. According to a police report, Brandon Dakota Kitchens shot the dog after finding out that his girlfriend was cheating on him with the dog’s owner. The dog, a blue pit bull named Chabo, sustained injuries to one of his hind legs but managed to escape and is recovering well.

Upon his arrest, Kitchens was charged with several felonies — aggravated animal cruelty, possession of two sawed-off shotguns with scratched-off serial numbers, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. At his home, police also found several dogs that they suspect were used in dogfights. Animal welfare officers say that Kitchens has a history of animal abuse charges.

This alleged crime is particularly shocking due to its potential to have ended on a much worse note. Not only could the dog have died, but the owner and nearby witnesses could have been harmed as well.

Considering this man’s previous involvement in both animal cruelty crimes and street crimes, authorities must take a tough stance in order to ensure that he does not continue abusing animals. Sign the petition below to demand that he is given jail time for his brutal attack on an innocent dog and his reckless endangerment of humans.

Dear Mr. Cooke,

A man accused of shooting an innocent dog in a fit of rage is facing several felony charges. According to police, the man shot the dog after finding out that his girlfriend was cheating on him with the dog’s owner. While the dog will recover, this violent behavior must be punished, particularly considering that the accused has a long record of crimes against both animals and humans.

While the situation is tragic, the outcome could have been so much worse. The man, who faces two counts of possession of guns with scratched-off serial numbers, could have easily injured or killed the dog’s owner and several nearby witnesses. Because he savagely shot an innocent pet and endangered several people, we urge you to ensure that this man is returned to jail.

  1. Jail time without a doubt. If everybody were to do this without punishment what kind of society would we have. Animal abuse is a felony. Let the inmates take care of his temper tantrum spells. This guy will harm someone at the 1st next chance he gets.

  2. Kae Blecha, OTR says:

Just what does a bad guy in Georgia have to do before they’re prosecuted appropriately?

  3. Tony DeLia Tony DeLia says:

Ms. Schwager allegedly uses the word allegedly unnecessarily. Does that sound right?

  4. This is exactly what happens when the law is too lax with animal abusers. These criminals become bolder and intensify their criminal activities.
