Target: Tate Reeves, Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi
Goal: Enact stricter animal protection laws after a cat is reportedly beaten to death.
A cat died after reportedly sustaining a vicious beating. A visitor allegedly attacked her at the Brookhaven National Rescue League Adoption Center (BARL). Demand that justice is served for this innocent cat.
Shelter workers found 3-year-old Tilly bleeding shortly after a visitor exited the BARL adoption center. Her blood covered the walls and a plastic stick was found nearby. Though rushed to the vet immediately, Tilly did not survive her injuries. A man has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty, but reports state that he is already out on bond.
In Mississippi, animal cruelty is only a misdemeanor charge on the first attempt. This makes it highly unlikely that this offender, if convicted, will receive suitable punishment for his crime. Sign below and demand that stricter laws are put in place in order to prevent animal cruelty.
Dear Lt. Governor Reeves,
A cat died after she was reportedly beaten in an animal shelter. Workers found 3-year-old Tilly bloody and in pain following a visit with a potential adopter. We demand that justice is served for this innocent cat.
A shelter worker returned to find blood splattered across the room. Tilly’s odd behavior and a broken stick in the corner told the rest of the story. Though the worker rushed Tilly to the vet, she died from her injuries.
A man has been charged with animal cruelty in this case but will only face a misdemeanor charge due to this being his first attempt. This is unacceptable. Animal abuse should be a felony every time. We demand that stricter laws are set in place against animal abusers.
