Dogs Allegedly Abused in Dogfighting Ring Deserve Justice

Pitbull by Richard Masoner

Target: Jason Foy, Deputy Chief of Police of the Rock Island, Illinois Police Department

Goal: Punish people who allegedly fought and abused dogs to the fullest extent of the law.

Sixty-four dogs were allegedly abused and made to fight each other in a dogfighting ring. We need to take action to make sure these innocent animals receive justice.

According to police, the dogs were found in both Rock Island, Illinois and Davenport, Iowa near objects used to train dogs for fighting. Officials may investigate Ryan Hickman and Willie Jackson to see if they played any part in harming these animals since they were said to keep narcotics and a firearm at a couple of the locations where the dogs were found.

While it is good news that these animals have been seized and are now receiving proper treatment and medical care, some of them may have to be put down if they display violent behavior as a result of having been trained to attack each other.

Demand police thoroughly investigate the incident and insist that whoever took part in this sick crime be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, which could include a five year prison sentence, if they are found guilty of having committed this crime on a federal level. Dogs deserve to be loved, not fought by greedy people for the sole purpose of making a profit.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Deputy Chief Foy,

Police recently reported that they rescued 64 dogs from a massive dogfighting ring. It is important that the people responsible are given the most severe legal penalty in order to prevent them from hurting and possibly killing more animals in the future.

Although authorities arrested Ryan Hickman and Willie Jackson on unrelated charges, it is possible that they may have been involved in this crime since police found both drugs and a firearm where some of the dogs were located. Unfortunately, the animals were apparently neglected and chained up on various properties throughout Rock Island, Illinois and Davenport, Iowa. Police also stated that the dogs were found near devices that are specifically used for training dogs to fight.

Although there is hope for the dogs since they will now be treated humanely and provided with adequate medical care, it is likely that some of them will have to be euthanized because they won’t be able to appropriately interact with other people and animals after enduring such abuse.

For all of these reasons, I urge you to recommend to court officials that all parties who participated in this disgusting act be given the harshest legal sentence possible. People who abuse animals in this manner deserve to spend a lengthy amount of time in prison.

Sincerely,

  1. NO! These dogs have been TRAINED to fight one another….they shouldn’t be killed because they do what they have been taught.
Michael Vick’s dog fighting ring was broken up, and his dogs were confiscated….a judge had to decide what to do with them….while the Humane Society and PETA urged him to have the dogs killed, only Best Friends Animal Sanctuary spoke up and requested to take as many of the dogs as the judge would allow….they were allowed to take a large number and rehabilitated almost all of them….those which could not be rehabilitated to the point of becoming adoptable, remained at Best Friends for the rest of their lives, living in comfortable runs with individual dog houses, given exercise and training…..one became the “office dog”…..
MY point is that these dogs CAN BE REHABILITATED! They should not be automatically killed.

The JUDGE has the final say and sadly these idiots will probably walk free. They WILL do this again as our justice system, the loopholes, the law is messed up. There is never justice for these dogs. Yeap, that’s where our tax dollars go…..

I live in this area..and I am totally disgusted that these guys are only getting charged for narcotics and nothing for animal cruelty! One guy was arrested a year ago with dog fighting and he is gonna keep doing it until the law is harser…idiots…they will have to meet their maker one day…the same maker that created the dogs

  4. THESE SICK AND EVIL BASTARDS NEED TO BE STRUNG UP AND LEFT TO SWING, NEVER TO BE SEEN AGAIN, LOW LIFE SCUM, MAKE THEM PAY
