Stop Selling Products Made With Fur and Angora Wool

Target: Michael R. MacDonald, CEO of DSW

Goal: Stop promoting animal torture by stocking fur and angora wool products.

Major fashion retailer Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) currently actively supports the grotesque abuse and torture of animals raised on fur and angora farms by selling a number of products, from hats to socks, made with real fur and angora wool.

Animals raised for fur are forced to spend their whole lives in abject squalor. They are confined to tiny, crammed cages in which they can barely move. Their excrement is left to accumulate, resulting in disease, parasites and infections. Water and food are scarce, and many of these animals are kept outside with nothing protecting them from extreme weather conditions. Due to these cruel and unbearable living conditions, animals on fur farms oftentimes become psychotic, attacking and mutilating themselves and each other.

The methods used to slaughter these animals are horrific. Many are electrocuted until they suffer cardiac arrest. Others are poisoned to death. Some have their necks broken, and some are skinned alive.

It is no different on angora farms, most of which are located in China where there is nothing in place to regulate the treatment of animals. On these farms, angora rabbits endure extreme pain and suffering as their fur is ripped from their skin with sharp cutting tools. This process occurs again and again every few months until the animal finally perishes, which usually happens within two years.

Numerous fashion retailers including Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, H&M, Forever 21 and Eddie Bauer have done the right thing and stopped selling products made with fur and angora wool. Please sign the below petition vowing not to shop at DSW until they cease to support the immense cruelty of the fur and angora trades.

Dear Mr. MacDonald,

Given all we know about the sinister fur and angora wool industries, it is hard to believe that your company still advertises fashion items made with these materials. Animals brought up on fur and angora wool farms are made to endure unimaginable suffering and abuse for their entire lives. They languish in filthy, undersized cages that fill up with excrement and expose them to disease and infection. Many are not adequately protected from extreme weather elements.

The methods used to kill animals are fur farms are shockingly brutal. Many of them are electrocuted or poisoned, while others have their necks broken. In some cases, the animals are skinned alive and left to die in excruciating pain.

On angora farms, rabbits have their fur torn from their bodies with sharp cutting tools every few months. The cycle of torture ends only when they die, which typically occurs inside of two years.

Considering the numerous humane alternatives, there is no excuse in the world to sell real fur or angora wool. I will not consider purchasing anything from DSW long as you continue to profit from the torture of these innocent animals. Please stop doing so immediately.

  5. I am so outraged that, even after being told about the barbaric footage of rabbits having the fur ripped right off of their bodies while they scream in pain, DSW still persists in selling angora items. This is nothing short of despicable!

In today’s modern society, there are cruelty-free fabrics all around us and absolutely no excuse for DSW to continue to sell angora. Competitors of yours–including Adidas, ASOS, H&M, Inditex, Calvin Klein, and Topshop–as well as so many others have made the compassionate decision to go angora-free.

I will not shop at DSW and will tell everyone I can what your company does. And, I am on the computer every, single day.

Fur is worn by beautiful animals and ugly nasty stupid people. Our 21st century world doesn’t need them anymore. Now, how can we get rid of them?
