Don’t Serve Animal Products at Fundraiser for Dogs

Target: Suki’s Canine Rescue Crew

Goal: Ensure food served at dog charity event is vegan so that animals are not abused and killed for a fundraiser for pets.

A charity fundraiser for an animal rescue organization will feature products obtained through animal cruelty. Market stalls at the Charity Dog Show organized by Suki’s Canine Rescue Crew will serve meat, cheese and other food items whose production involve suffering and death for helpless animals. While the event will feature one vegan food stand, all other stalls such as Jammin’ BBQ and Steve’s Steak Bar will serve products obtained from the suffering and killing of innocent animals. This goes against the charity’s aim to help and protect animals.

While Suki’s Canine Rescue Crew’s work caring for and rehoming dogs is admirable and beneficial to these animals, it should not allow its fundraising event to feature products obtained from the confinement, mutilation and slaughter of cows, chickens, pigs and other animals who are as deserving of care and protection as dogs.

Sign this petition politely urging this organization to ensure only vegan fare is served at its charity event.

Dear Suki’s Canine Rescue,

I would like to thank you for the work you do caring for and rehoming dogs in need. It is highly commendable and truly beneficial to these pets. However, please consider serving only vegan food at your Charity Dog Show.

The cows, chickens, pigs and other animals raised for food suffer confinement, mutilation and slaughter, despite deserving our care and protection as much as dogs do. Your event will feature one vegan food stand, however other stalls will serve products obtained from the suffering and killing of innocent animals. This goes against your aim to help and protect animals.

I urge you to ensure no animal products are served at this event–please replace stalls serving meat with caterers offering plant-based foods instead.

  1. Why target this one rescue when HSUS serves the same at fundraisers. They’ve even endorsed Meatopia. I see many animal activists singing their praises.

  2. Indeed! Have always thought such things are blatantly hypocritical, and never attend such events. AS IF they “can’t” serve veggie dogs, veggie patties, delicious grilled veggies, veggie flatbreads, etc., instead. Humane societies are also notorious for ‘forgetting’ all about the OTHER animals’ lives, just to promote their fundraising “bbq” events. Shameful and stupid by ALL these ‘rescue’ groups. Our local one DOES do veggie/vegan!

There’s such a disconnect in our country regarding which species of animals we choose to value. An anecdote that has stayed with me was written by an ASPCA worker who rescued pigs from a barn fire. As she held a trembling pig to comfort her, she realized that her plans to go out later for a pork sandwich were hypocritical, and she became vegetarian on the spot.

    • Celeste H. says:

I agree with you Kae, there is an extreme disconnect, because we should be evolved enough to know that pigs are just as emotional, intelligent, and loving as dogs are… Even if we have never spent time around live pigs before, all you have to do is watch a few videos and read a few articles to understand that pigs are so much like dogs in almost every way… They wag their tails and make grunting sounds when happy, they roll over for belly rubs, they dream when they sleep, they bond with humans and other animals… and whenever I
see photos of pigs, it just strikes me how much they
remind me of dogs (especially their eyes)… and I
ask this question almost every day — why does our
world have such a prejudice against pigs, and value
them so much more than cats and dogs? Is it because
so few people get to actually know pigs during their
      lifetimes? It’s a question that haunts me….

  4. I support this, vegan food for dogs and cats!
    I would like this everywhere.
I think they can serve vegan food to “their” dogs here, like the humanitarian associations, they must serve vegan food for people. Not a lamb dish! for example, my goodness.

Serve VEGAN foods, and ONLY VEGAN foods.

I’m afraid I find this petition a bit hypocritical. I feel very strongly that animals in agriculture need much stronger protections from the horrific abuse they currently suffer, but in fairness dogs are carnivores, as are cats. To withhold animal products from your dog or cat is in itself animal abuse. As a dog and cat parent, I’m frustrated at how little humanely sourced dog and cat food is out there, even among the high-quality “natural” “healthy” brands, but I am not about to feed them a vegan diet. I How about insisting that all products served are humanely raised and pushing harder for more ethically and humanely sourced pet foods?

    • Natasha polychuk says:

Feeding cats and dogs a healthy vegan diet is not abuse. I would if i could afford it. My 2 cats died recently from cancer since the grovery stores sell cancer in cans and bags……..

      • Natasha polychuk says:

        grocery i meant

      • Dogs and cats cannot be vegan, and feeding them in that way slowly kills them. Their bodies are designed, even after all this time of being domesticated, to digest a nearly 100% carnivorous diet. It is absolutely abuse, and any trained veterinarian will tell you so.

        • Dogs can become omnivorous, like humans, but won’t like it! CATS absolutely cannot…..they are “obligate carnivores” meaning they MUST have meat/ fish……as you rightly say, she needs to talk to a veterinarian!

      • If you fed your cats a vegan or vegetarian diet YOU killed them….cats are “obligate carnivores” meaning they REQUIRE meat/ fish to survive….they CANNOT survive on a vegan diet.

    • I agree, factory farming is horrible and needs a complete overhaul…..the USDA inspectors (who also are in charge of overseeing puppy mills) are in the pockets of the factory farm owners…..this all needs to be changed!

We may see more and more people going vegan but its doubtful that everyone on the planet will…..the best way to deal with this is to make the lives of farm animals as natural as possible, and their deaths as kind as possible.
