Target: Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China
Goal: End the inhumane practice of eating dog meat at annual festival.
Each summer in southern China a dog meat festival is held to celebrate and promote the eating of dog meat. Prior to being brutally slaughtered, the dogs, often family pets with collars still around their necks, are trucked hundreds of miles without food or water. They are then brutally beaten to death while dogs awaiting the same fate are forced to watch.
In addition to these horrors, dog meat also poses serious risks for human health. It frequently carries trichinellosis, cholera, and rabies. The southern regions of China already have one of the highest rates of rabies in humans due to regular dog meat consumption.
Demand that dog meat consumption is banned for the sake of the dogs and public health.
Dear President Jinping,
Southern areas of China are known for regular consumption of dog meat as well as for a horrible annual dog meat festival each summer. Many of the dogs brutally slaughtered during the festival are stolen family pets with collars still around their necks. The dogs are tortured and beaten to death by restaurant owners seeking to increase their business. Eating dog meat also poses serious health risks for your citizens.
We demand that the inhumane practice of eating dog meat is banned and the festival abolished.
