Imprison Man Charged With 267 Instances of Animal Cruelty

Target: NJSPCA President Steve Shatkin

Goal: Make sure pet store owner charged with 267 counts of animal cruelty is imprisoned for his crimes.

In East Brunswick, New Jersey, a 50 year old man is facing 267 counts of animal cruelty. He owns a pet store called Just Pups, and petitioners are vying for the whole store to be shut down. As it should be. Three dead dogs were found in his freezer. Reports say new animals were being caged with sick animals who were not receiving proper, if any, treatment. State inspectors claim 50 puppies were exposed to illnesses due to the owner not properly tending to already sick animals and preventing the spread of infection.

Puppies were exposed to diseases such as distemper, upper respiratory infections, giardia and more. Even the shoppers visiting Just Pups were at risk for contracting diseases from the rampant bacteria. Not to mention the risk any of their current pets faced when shoppers returned home. Several of the puppies sold from Just Pups died from complications and diseases after being purchased, and others that were recently inspected by vets were deemed sick and unfit for sale.

While finally facing charges, this is not Just Pup’s first rodeo. The owner received a letter of warning before, after his store was noted in violation of the Pet Purchase Protection Act after selling sick puppies. No steps were taken to address the situation. If that is not enough, East Brunswick is only the tip of the ice berg and the owner could face even more counts of animal cruelty. He also owns four other pet stores in New Jersey.

Demand this man see prison for his crimes, and do not allow him to walk free. Urge prosecutors to push for maximum sentencing when dealing with this individual, and permanently shut down Just Pups in all locations.

Dear President Shatkin,

Just Pups’ owner is facing 267 counts of animal cruelty, with more expected to come. It is terrible that so many animals suffered, and so many new owners also suffered the loss of a beloved pet because of one man’s insidious disregard for animal welfare. Just Pups has been closed several times, and even after receiving correspondence about the state of its business, refused to address the growing problems.

Humans and pets are both at risk if Just Pups is allowed to continue on. It would be an affront to allow such a despicable place to continue operations. It needs to be permanently shut down, and the man behind this chain of cruelty needs to be behind bars. The consequences for his alleged inhumanity should be harsh. Do not allow this individual to walk free. Don’t allow him another chance to harm more animals or endanger the health of pet owners.

How is this man even being ALLOWED TO OWN one pet store, much less four?? And what were the authorities waiting on to shut him down–seeing if he could get to 300 counts before they did so? Heads should roll over this, and not just that of the owner of Just Pups.

  2. What this guy is still running? So dogs dead in a freezer isnt enough? Seriously America get a grip.

  3. Por tanta maldade tem que ir direto pro inferno!!!

  6. Kayrn Mahair says:

Pet stores, in general, are an abomination. Dead animalsl go into hidden freezers, so even the inspectors can’t locate them.
