End Cruel Big Cat Show in Vegas

Westgate Bobak Ha'Eri

Target: David A. Siegel, Chairman and CEO of Westgate Resorts

Goal: End Dirk Arthur’s big cat shows at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino.

Dirk Arthur is a well known entertainer in Las Vegas who has been doing big cat shows for years. As more and more people are becoming aware of the horrors that happen to big cats used for entertainment, entertainers are retiring their animal acts and venues are dropping acts using big cats. Unfortunately, the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino is planning on having Arthur return to its stage with his cats.

Arthur has been cited by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for several violations, including unsafe enclosures, inadequate barriers between the animals and the public, forceful and painful declawing, and denying the animals exercise. From those violations alone, it is clear that Arthur does not care about the animals or the public, but only the profit.

Sign this petition and demand the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino cancel its shows with Dirk Arthur.

Dear Mr. Siegel,

The Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino is planning on having the famous entertainer Dirk Arthur perform his big cat show. In recent years, the public has become more aware of the horrors that happen to animals used for entertainment. This has lead to many places dropping their animal shows and for entertainers to retire their animal acts. It is time Westgate follows in those footsteps.

Arthur has been cited several times by the U.S. Department of Agriculture for various violations. Some include not providing safe enclosures or adequate barriers between the animals and the public, and others for forceful and painful declawing and denying the animals adequate exercise.

It is clear that Arthur does not care about the animals or the public. He just wants to make a profit. Please consider dropping his act for his lack of integrity and respect.

We/our group visit Vegas frequently, we will make it a point to stay away from Westgate. Animal acts are sickening and this Dirk Arthur is nasty. These poor cats are abused, everybody knows it, why would any business condone this garbage entertainment??

  2. LIZ THOMPSON says:

I live here and definitely won’t give him a penny to see that awful show. He needs to quit this travesty!

  3. It has come to my attention that the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino is continuing to host the infamous animal exhibitor Dirk Arthur. I strongly urge you to cancel Mr. Arthur’s performances at once.

As you may know, Mr. Arthur has a long and alarming record of animal maltreatment as well as public endangerment. His list of animal welfare violations include, but are not limited to the following:

    1. Forcing two tigers and one lion to undergo the illegal and painful procedure of declawing which is in violation of the USDA’s policy which has been in effect for quite some time. This is akin to a human having his/her finger clipped off at the top joint.
    2. Keeping animals in cages at temperatures where the ground has been recorded at 127 degrees.
    3. Failing to protect the public and the animals by not using adequate barriers.
    4. Failing to provide big cats with enough space to “make normal postural and social adjustments”.

These reasons, alone, are enough to say “NO” to sponsoring Dirk Arthur. Moreover, there are an abundance of terrific shows in Vegas that utilize human performers; therefore, there is simply no need for the backing of Mr. Arthur’s exploitation of animals. As well, other Vegas landmarks have already made the kindhearted decision to reject any acts that misuse big cats, and I am truly hoping that you will do the same.

  4. Ah, the land of decadence. If tourists continue to frequent shows like this, they will continue to thrive. If there were no market, people like this jerk, would have no living, because he wouldn’t be booked, in places like Las Vegas. Tiger acts have been around in Las Vegas for a long time. Personally, I’m at a loss as to why anyone would want to visit that city in the first place. Human indulgence at it’s highest level, so why wouldn’t hotels want to “up the anti”, to supply animal acts as entertainment.
