Target: William J. Bratton, New York Police Department Police Commissioner
Goal: Fire and apprehend police officer who reportedly shot harmless dog and left it to die.
A friendly dog was allegedly viciously shot in the head by a police officer. We need to take action to better ensure this animal receives justice if this is found to be the case.
Officer Ruben Cuesta reportedly shot the dog in front of his owner and her daughter after the dog snuck out into a hallway apartment while he was searching for another potential criminal. The dog was wagging its tail, according to witnesses. Although the dog’s owner tried to yell to the officer that the dog was friendly, the officer apparently did not make any effort to stop what he was doing. Just as bad, the bullet could have easily hit either the dog’s owner or her daughter instead of the dog, since they were both standing within close proximity of the animal. Contrarily, even though the incident was caught on tape, the officer has neither been fired nor even questioned for possibly displaying this action.
Demand this case be thoroughly investigated and that this man be fired and legally penalized for committing this senseless crime if he is found guilty of such horrific animal cruelty. Officers do not have the inherent right to abuse their power.
Dear Commissioner Bratton,
An officer who works for you has been accused of shooting an innocent dog and leaving it to die. This situation needs to be investigated in order to ensure the safety of both animals and people.
The incident supposedly occurred while Officer Ruben Cuesta was on a domestic violence call. The dog ran into an apartment hallway when the officer was searching for the people who may have been involved in the disturbance. Witnesses proclaim that the dog was wagging its tail. Additionally, the owner tried to yell at the officer to let him know that the animal was friendly. Despite her efforts, the dog was said to be shot right in front of her and her daughter. Shooting a dog in front of two people who greatly care for it is not only cruel, but doing so is also dangerous to people witnessing the crime.
I therefore urge you to review the taped incident, to thoroughly investigate the actions of this officer and to suggest that he be prosecuted if he is found guilty. Officers who shoot their guns solely because they wear a badge do not deserve to keep their jobs.
