Punish Owner of Neglected Alpacas

Target: Sheriff John Snaza

Goal: Punish woman allegedly involved in severe neglect of her 33 alpacas.

A woman was arrested under allegations of neglecting her 33 alpacas in Tenino, Washington. She is facing animal cruelty charges and the alpacas were seized and rescued. According to the Thurston county sheriff’s office, this woman has a history of not properly caring for her animals, which begs the question how she has yet to face charges for cruelty.

When officials arrived on scene, the alpacas were being kept in deplorable, cramped conditions. Their coats were matted and dirty. They were dehydrated and suffering parasitic infections. The officials also claimed that the alpacas had symptoms of pad rot. This disease is caused by walking on wet ground and results in an infection that erodes the pads of their feet and can cause lameness and pain. The horror of this woman’s abuse doesn’t end here, sadly. Officers also found four alpaca carcasses on the premises.

Those alpacas still living are a vet’s nightmare, with the poor health and the many diseases. One is said to only have had days to live before the rescue. Thankfully, the alpacas are all free of this neglectful woman’s clutches and have since been relocated to Cross Creek Alpaca Rescue. The rescue center does need donations to help feed the animals while they nurse their health.

This woman should not walk free. That she was apparently known to mistreat and neglect animals and yet no one found it necessary to prosecute her before now is ludicrous and all too common. Don’t allow this woman to walk free again. Do not allow her to be slapped with measly fines and sent on her way to continue torturing animals. Do all you can to ensure this woman is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Urge Thurston County Sheriff’s Office to proper action that will not allow her to continue her cruelties.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Sheriff Snaza,

A woman was recently arrested under multiple allegations of animal cruelty in Thurston County. According to reports, this woman is known to be negligent and cruel to animals, yet she has continued to own them. Now that she is in custody for the neglect of 33 alpacas, and the untended carcasses of four more, she should be put away at last. With the ever-increasing severity of punishments for animal cruelty, there should be no reason for her to walk free of this.

The alpacas in her care were diseased, dehydrated, suffering from parasites and rot on the pads of their feet. One was days away from dying and four of their group were already dead. There is absolutely no excuse for this sort of treatment. This woman deserves no sympathy for her actions and she should be prosecuted to the fullest extent. Please do all you can to ensure she doesn’t walk free to harm more animals.

Sincerely,

Sounds like Thurston County needs to step up and deal with their animal cruelty cases. The meth arrests can wait a minute.

  7. Kathy Khoshfahm says:

Sheriff John Snaza – It is high time that law enforcement took animal cruelty cases seriously. The Animal Kingdom are citizens of this Earth, too; they have just as much a right to be here as you and I do and they deserve our respect and protection. Please do the right thing here and get this woman prosecuted before more animals are abused, or worse.
