Target: Fumio Kishida, Minister of Foreign Affairs in Japan
Goal: Demand that Japan stop hunting down minke whales in the name of research.
Over 300 whales are dead due to an illegal whaling program in Japan. The program claims to be dedicated to the research and preservation of the minke whale, but has defied the United Nations’ restrictions on whaling. Put an end to this program and save the whales.
Japan’s Institute of Cetacean Research traveled into the Antarctic Ocean and returned with 333 dead whales. Over 200 were female and 90 percent of them were pregnant, per the report. This is only the beginning. This expedition is part of a 12 year scientific program with the goal of killing over 4,000 minke whales in the name of research.
The United Nations has adamantly forbidden this program and called its scientific objective into question. Despite this, Japan refuses to comply with demands to cease the hunt. This program cannot be allowed to continue. Sign below and save the minke whale.
Dear Minister Kishida,
Japan’s Institute of Cetacean Research killed over 300 minke whales in its latest expedition. This is unacceptable. No research program should result in such a high death toll. We demand that you put a stop to this program at once.
Over 200 of the whales killed were female and of those, 90 percent were pregnant. It is uncertain how this plays into the research methods of the program, but such a large death toll calls the program’s ethics into question. If the program is allowed to continue, 4,000 minke whales will be dead in the next eleven years. This is unacceptable.
Whaling is a crime that concerns the entire world. We demand that you put a stop to this program at once.
