Target: Marian T. Ryan, Middlesex County District Attorney
Goal: Punish man accused of taking a friend’s dog from her home and leaving it to die in an unheated trailer.
A man accused of stealing a pet dog and leaving it in an unheated trailer to die is currently on trial in Lowell, Massachusetts. The man allegedly entered a friend’s home while she was in the hospital to put up a Christmas tree, but at the same time put her dog in a crate and left it in a camper outside the house. The dog, a small chihuahua named Coco, quickly died in the freezing weather.
According to the homeowner, accused Michael Thompson did not have permission to enter the home or take her dog. Thompson, on the other hand, claims that owner Nancy Morton had asked him to remove the dog from the home. When asked about why he left it outside to die, he claims that he intended to take it to the Humane Society but got distracted.
According to Morton, Thompson told her 19-year-old son that he intended to take Coco to a friend’s home, where other dogs could keep it company. After Coco died, Thompson changed his story to say that he had the dog euthanized. When an outraged Nancy Thompson called her local Humane Society branch, staff allegedly said that Thompson had attempted to have Coco euthanized but couldn’t produce proof of ownership.
This story is particularly shocking as the actions of the accused seem to show premeditation. If Morton’s claims are true, this man illegally entered her home with the intention of killing her dog, one way or another. Sign the petition below to demand that if convicted, the maximum possible penalty is sought against this cruel offender.
Dear District Attorney Ryan,
A man is currently on trial for allegedly entering a friend’s home without her permission, stealing her dog, and leaving it in an unheated trailer in the dead of winter. The small chihuahua, Coco, quickly froze to death and was dumped in a trash can.
The dog’s owner claims that not only did the offender enter her home illegally, but did so with the intention of killing the dog. It is imperative that this shocking and invasive crime be punished to the fullest extent of the law. We, the undersigned, ask that you seek the maximum possible punishment against this defendant.
