Target: Ren Lohoefener, Regional Director of The Pacific Southwest Region of the National Fish and Wildlife Service
Goal: Demand that California crack down on illegal traps to prevent injury to innocent animals.
A cat was injured after it stepped into an illegal coyote trap. The trap was steel-jawed and caused serious tissue damage in the cat’s leg. Urge California to crack down on illegal trapping and prevent the suffering of innocent animals.
The cat stepped into the trap as it wandered through an occupied neighborhood. The body-gripping mechanism hooked onto the cat’s leg instantly. This inhumane device is meant to hold an animal in place, painfully, until it can be retrieved. The cat meowed and cried until its owner heard it and came to the rescue. The cat did not break any bones, thankfully, but did suffer tissue damage.
Steel-jawed traps are inhumane and illegal in California. Demand justice for this cat and urge California to crack down on illegal trapping.
Dear Mr. Lohoefener,
A steel-jawed trap captured a cat as it wandered through its neighborhood. The painful body-gripping mechanism tore through the cat’s leg and left it with extensive tissue damage. Put a stop to illegal trapping and protect innocent animals.
The cat’s owner found it crying after it got caught in the coyote trap. She immediately took the cat to an emergency vet where the trap was removed.
Steel-jawed traps are illegal in California and no trap should be placed within 150 feet of an occupied residence. We demand justice for this innocent cat and an immediate crackdown on illegal trapping.
