Praise New Animal Crimes Training for Police Officers

Target: Tara Loller, Humane Society Director of Strategic Campaigns and Special Projects

Goal: Applaud Humane Society’s efforts to train law enforcement to better deal with animal cruelty and neglect.

The Humane Society of America is hosting week-long training courses for law enforcement covering animal abuse and neglect. The officers will be taught how to respond to and handle animal abuse situations from first response to prosecution. As cases of animal abuse increase, the Humane Society is extending its outreach programs to include key actors in communities to affect long-term change.

During these training programs, the officers will not only learn about abuse, but they will receive an evidence kit worth over $500 at no cost. They will be trained to use all of the resources available to them when managing cases of animal abuse. Since officers often encounter situations of animal abuse, they will no longer be at a disadvantage in responding to these crises. It was reported that at least 700 officers were enrolled in a single day course, signalling the demand for this type of training in law enforcement.

The Humane Society will be conducting these training programs across the U.S., hitting five major cities in each state for at least three weeks of training. This includes law enforcement training, shelter and rescue training, and wildlife rescue training. Please sign this petition to applaud the Humane Society in its great efforts to end animal cruelty across America.

Dear Ms. Loller,

I am writing this letter to you in admiration and respect. I recently read about your outreach program in Tulsa, Oklahoma that is aimed at law enforcement officials and those who come into contact with animal abuse. These programs will make a drastic difference in the way officers can respond to cases of animal abuse and neglect.

As you know, with each passing year we are seeing a rise in animal abuse cases across the U.S. and there is much to be done in combating these unfortunate situations. What your organization has done by providing this invaluable training is arm the public with the knowledge and resources that they so desperately need to report, assist and fight against animal abuse in their community. I look forward to your training programs as they come to my state and will encourage everyone I know to partake in these priceless training events.

Thank you so much for providing these much-needed training classes, resources, and tools to law enforcement. You are undoubtedly creating positive change not only in Oklahoma, but in the world. These efforts will be witnessed, documented and serve as an inspiration to for years to come.
