Target: Shaun Sawyer, Chief Constable of the Devon and Cornwall Police

Goal: Urgently release dog caged for two years to U.S. sanctuary willing to take her in.

A sweet pit bull dog named Stella has been languishing in a police cage for two years, reportedly without ever being walked or socialized. The dog has allegedly been caged without exercise by the Devon and Cornwall police since being removed from her owner in 2014. According to a whistleblower, Stella has only been let out of her cage twice in two years for behavioral assessments. The dog was taken from her owner because she was a banned breed, despite having never shown aggression.

Now, the Animals R Family rescue center in Stamford, Connecticut has offered to take Stella in and even pay for the dog to be flown from the United Kingdom to the United States. The charity has said that “breed-specific legislation is wrong and ineffective” and that “Stella is a sweet and friendly pit bull who wants love and a family.”

Urge the Devon and Cornwall police department to release Stella to the sanctuary willing to give her a better life, so that this sweet dog can finally have the exercise and care she deserves.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chief Constable Sawyer,

Please urgently release Stella the pit bull to the U.S. sanctuary willing to take her in and pay for her flight over. Stella has reportedly been languishing in a cage with no exercise or proper socialization for two years after being removed from her owner in 2014 for being a banned breed. However, Stella has never shown aggression and is by all reports a “sweet and friendly” dog, proving that breed-specific legislation is a faulty system.

I urge you to allow Stella to be sent to the Animals R Family rescue center in Stamford, Connecticut so that this innocent dog may finally receive the care and exercise she deserves.

Sincerely,

  1. VERY WRONG & THIS IS ANIMAL ABUSE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PITBULLS & THEY WERE THE BEST.
MY RECENT RESCUE WAS ABUSED. SHE IS GRATEFUL, LOVING & IS HAPPY. NOW DO THE RIGHT THING & LET THIS BEAUTY REJOICE AT A SANCTUARY. YOU ARE KEEPING HER A PRISONER. WHY DO, MUDERERS, & CRIMINALS GO FREE?

  2. stella deserves a sanctuary now.

Shaun – Please do the right thing here and release this dog to the sanctuary willing to take her in Stamford, CT USA. Unbelievable that this situation has generated a petition. This animal has been locked up in a cage for 2 long years and you won’t release her to a sanctuary that is willing to take her? What on Earth could the reason be? Please Shaun. Have some compassion for this innocent creature and give her a 2nd chance for a happy life…

  6. Cecily Colloby says:

Nothing surprises me about the Police in this country-they “can’t” do anything about REAL crime but can keep an innocent animal locked up for 2 years. THEY should be charged with animal cruelty…..
