Praise Campaign to Rescue Dogs From Meat Farms

Target: Andrew Rowan, President, Humane Society International

Goal: Thank charity for saving hundreds of dogs from factory farms.

Hundreds of dogs have been rescued from the cruel meat trade in an ongoing series of rescues by Humane Society International (HSI) and its partners. The organization is targeting farmers in South Korea, where the burgeoning dog meat trade sees two and a half million dogs slaughtered for meat each year. HSI has so far been successful in convincing several dog meat farmers to pursue alternative livelihoods by providing resources to aid in the transition.

Conditions in dog meat farms are similar to, if not worse than, factory farms. The animals live in filthy, cramped cages and suffer physical injuries from standing and lying on cage bars for extended periods. Dogs in these farms, which are common throughout Asia, are likely to never breathe fresh air or stand on solid ground. Animals rescued from these facilities so far have shown symptoms of severe neglect, including dehydration and malnutrition.

In the past year, HSI has negotiated the closure of five such barbaric farms. Most recently, 250 dogs were removed from schoking conditions, 50 of which were quickly transported to shelters across the United States and Canada. The remaining 200 are currently receiving medical attention and rehabilitation before being sent to rescue operations which will work to place them in forever homes.

HSI’s efforts to shut down dog meat farms have saved hundreds of dogs from abhorrent abuse and eventual slaughter. As this campaign gains more momentum, it could finally bring about the end of the dog farming industry in South Korea. Sign the petition below to praise HSI’s rescues and encourage them to continue their efforts to end dog meat farming.

Dear Mr. Rowan,

Humane Society International recently rescued 250 dogs from a factory farm in South Korea. Here, they were made to suffer through filthy conditions, freezing temperatures, and untreated injuries and diseases. This is only one of several successful operations in which HSI has worked with dog farmers to pursue new, cruelty-free livelihoods.

Hundreds of dogs will live safe lives with loving families thanks to the efforts of HSI and its partners. We, the undersigned, praise your efforts to rescue dogs from cruel factory farms and urge you to continue working toward the complete shutdown of the dog meat industry in South Korea.
