Target: Sheriff Mike Williams of Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office
Goal: Thank the sheriff and his fellow officers for helping a turtle in need.
Officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office were boating a few miles off the coast when they saw a leatherback sea turtle caught in a crab trap. According to the officers, the net was tangled around the turtle’s neck and tightened every time the turtle tried to dive.
The officers approached the turtle and could see he was exhausted. The officers quickly went to work to release the turtle from the netting. At first, the turtle was nervous and apprehensive of the newcomers but quickly learned that they were there to help.
The officers were able to cut the net and free the turtle. Sign this letter and thank the officers for going out of their way to help this vulnerable species.
