Illegal Hunts in Whale Sanctuary Must Be Stopped

Target: Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull

Goal: Help locate Japanese whaling fleets before they illegally hunt and kill hundreds of whales in the Antarctic sanctuary.

Japanese whaling ships have been hunting in the Southern Ocean for two months and plan to kill over 300 whales this season alone. This is despite the International Court of Justice having ruled this program illegal. Whales are cruelly pursued and slaughtered for their meat. Not only is commercial whaling against the law, it is especially illegal in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary, a protected area for the whales.

However, the governments of neighboring countries Australia and New Zealand have done little to enforce international law and protect whales. Non-profit Sea Shepherd is the only group working hard to stop the Japanese fleets, but limited resources and the vast area there is to protect are making the task difficult.

Sea Shepherd founder Captain Paul Watson says he expected that “Australia or New Zealand would uphold their obligations as responsible members of the International Whaling Commission, to send a ship to intercept the Japanese whaling fleet,” but this has not occurred. Sea Shepherd is calling on these countries’ authorities to reveal the whalers’ location, so that the conservation group can intervene and prevent further killing.

Sign this petition urging the Australian government to provide Sea Shepherd with the coordinates of the Japanese fleet, so that it can step in and protect whales.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prime Minister Turnbull,

Japanese whaling ships have been hunting in the Southern Ocean for two months now and plan to carry on slaughtering whales until March. This is illegal under international law, as ruled by the International Court of Justice. Moreover, whales are supposedly protected in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary.

Nonetheless, your government has done nothing to stop Japanese ships and protect whales, thus failing to uphold Australia’s obligations as a responsible member of the International Whaling Commission. You have the power to help stop this massacre by simply disclosing the illegal whalers’ coordinates. I urge you to reveal the Japanese fleet’s location to Sea Shepherd so that they can step in and prevent even more whales from being illegally slaughtered.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

This is why Japan keeps hunting whales because no has real power or the guts to stop this right now..weasels. Keep fighting the good fighting Sea Shepherd!

  2. that mean japanese again !! shoot their ships !!

  3. Oceans are NOT ours for the taking. The OCEAN is not a “free-for-all”. We humans, have NO RIGHT to take what was never ours to begin with. Japan dosent understand the whole SANCTUARY deal. This country does NOT see the problem with what they are doing…slaughtering whales in vast numbers, causing sheer whale extinction within the next year or two. \\\\\SEA SHEPHERD are the ONLY ONES with the GUTS to confront Japan, and try to STOP the ILLEGAL hunting. IN A WHALE SANCTUARY! Only to be laughed at, when asked for help. Risking their OWN lives to save whales. Oceans are NOT a free for all. THE OCEAN IS NOT YOURS FOR THE TAKING! WHY isn’t the LAW being ENFORCED??!! DONT BE AFRAID OF THE JAPANESE. They are killing our OCEANS. WHALES,Shark-finning….you are KILLING OUR OCEANS. Taking what was NEVER YOURS! Where is the LAW when you need it??!?!!
