GEICO Must Stop Using Chimpanzees in Ads

Chimp Hans Hillewaert

Target: Tony Nicely, GEICO CEO

Goal: End GEICO’s use of chimpanzees in ads.

Recently, GEICO released a commercial featuring a chimpanzee “actor.” Chimpanzees used in the entertainment industry are typically taken away from their mothers at very early ages. This causes trauma to the baby and mother. The baby chimpanzee grows through critical years without a mother, but instead with a trainer. Trainers typically subject their animals to physical and psychological abuse in order to act on command.

Many companies decided to pull their ads after learning about the horrors that happen behind the scenes. AT&T, Capital One, Dodge and Pfizer are a few companies that have vowed to never use chimpanzees in their ads again. Sign this petition and demand GEICO do the same.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Nicely,

Your company recently released a commercial featuring a chimpanzee “actor.” Chimpanzees used in the entertainment industry are typically taken away from their mothers at very young ages. This means the baby chimpanzees are missing their mothers during very critical years of their life. Instead, a trainer takes place of the mother. Trainers typically subject their animals to physical and psychological abuse in order for the chimpanzee to act on command.

After the chimpanzees’ prime years are over, they are often discarded and live a life confined and alone. No animal should be subjected to a life like this. Please consider no longer using chimpanzee “actors” in your future ads. AT&T, Capital One, Dodge and Pfizer are a few companies that have vowed to never use chimpanzees in their ads again.

Sincerely,

  1. I am dropping my coverage with Gieco. Once Gieco stops enabling animal confinement and abuse I would like to use them for my insurance again. Please do what’s right and end the abuse for these living creatures!

  2. I will no longer use Geico for any insurance. It is sad that you are so money hungry you would resort to animal slaves to sell your product for you. Not the sort of ethics I want to be associated with.
