Target: Governor Javier Duarte, Veracruz, Mexico
Goal: End the annual brutal and senseless killing of bulls at the Fiesta de la Virgen de la Candelaria.
Ten bulls are unleashed onto the streets for people to torture and taunt every year in the town of Tlacotalpan, Mexico. The bulls are the main even in the Fiesta de la Virgen de la Candelaria, which is a week long religious celebration.
The bulls are pumped with alcohol and have stones, bottles and fists thrown at them as they run through the streets terrified. One resident even stated that the people will cut the bulls’ ears off. In some cases, stray dogs are tied to the bulls and are dragged around.
Most of the bulls will die, but those who survived are released into a pasture. Sign this petition and demand that these bulls’ lives are spared. This barbaric event condones torture and senseless pain and it is time it be put to an end.
Dear Mr. Duarte,
Fiesta de la Virgen de la Candelaria is a week-long festival that is celebrated by inflicting pain on another being. Every year, ten bulls are pumped with alcohol and then released to the streets. While the bulls are running scared in the streets, people kick, punch, cut, and throw bottles and stones at the innocent bulls.
Most of the bulls die during this event, but those who live are released into a pasture. This event is barbaric and endorses senseless torture and pain upon innocent beings. Please considering banning this event in the future. It is time this savage event be put to an end.
