Target: Riverton, Illinois Police Chief Dave Smith
Goal: Punish two brothers accused of shooting their two dogs.
Getting evicted is always difficult for pet owners because they have to make the decision on what to do with their pets. But two foster brothers, Brock Coonrod and Donald Burke, have allegedly been arrested for killing their two pit bulls after Coonrod faced eviction. He reportedly could not find a new home for his pit bull, as his dog fought with Burke’s dog, and the shelter and police could not take it in. After the two men were arrested, Coonrod allegedly admitted to shooting his dog in the woods and leaving its body. Still, both men have plead not guilty.
Neither Coonrod nor Burke have admitted to shooting the second dog, with Burke reportedly blaming his younger brother and Coonrod denying it. The dog was allegedly also shot in the same area, although later, and the body was reportedly left behind. The two brothers have reportedly posted a cash bond and are facing felony charges of aggravated cruelty and misdemeanor charges of cruelty to animals. The men were reportedly given advance warning of the eviction, and the Chief of Police Dave Smith allegedly questioned why they were unable to find new home(s) for the dogs.
Regardless if Burke was involved or not, this is a heinous and shocking crime against two innocent pit bulls. Smith allegedly mentioned having met one dog in a prior investigation and finding it sweet and well taken care of. There will reportedly be prosecution handed down to at least Coonrod, but it needs to be a firm punishment. His alleged actions were disgusting and his reported admittance was unsympathetic. We demand that the guilty parties receive the harshest sentences possible.
We demand justice for the two men accused of killing two innocent pit bulls. It is tough for someone getting evicted to find a new home for a pet, but Brock Coonrod’s alleged admission to killing at least one dog is shocking and wrong in any situation. It is a horrifying story to read about and the responsible parties should face severe punishment.
It seems as if you had met one of the dogs, and that you had your concerns about the men not being able to find new home(s) for the animals, and it’s time to act on those concerns. Coonrad has reportedly admitted to shooting at least one of the dogs in an unsympathetic testimony, and either Coonrad or Burke allegedly shot the other dog.
We demand full punishments for Coonrad and potentially Donald Burke, if found guilty. Those dogs did not deserve to die, they deserved new homes away from people capable of murdering them. Right now the men are free, and they should be behind bars for what they allegedly did to the dogs. We urge you to seek maximum punishment for the man or men responsible.
