Stop Using Animals in Chemical Safety Tests

Target: California Senators, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein

Goal: End chemical testing on animals.

Animals could have a fighting chance against dangerous and painful chemical testing. A new bill that could spare many innocent animals the distress and pain of laboratory testing will soon be presented to the U.S. Senate. If passed, the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act would better regulate how chemicals are tested for safety and reduce the use of animals in future testing.

Each year, millions of animals are poisoned, burnt, and killed in cruel chemical safety tests. In these experiments led to evaluate the toxicity of ingredients in consumer products, mice, rabbits, rats, and other animals are force-fed huge quantities of chemicals or have toxic substances applied onto their skin or injected into their eyes. Moreover, this horrific cruelty is often useless, seeing as animals react differently to many substances than humans, and these tests can be efficiently replaced by more reliable and humane alternatives.

This landmark bill would require the Environmental Protection Agency to fund the development and use of alternatives to animal testing, as well as promote non-animal testing as a first option in all chemical safety experiments. These methods — predominantly involving cell-based and molecular approaches — allow consumer product components to be tested more rapidly and more efficiently than animal experiments.

Sign this petition urging California’a Senators to support this new bill to save millions of animals from needless suffering.

Dear Senators Boxer and Feinstein,

California is often at the forefront of new laws improving animal welfare. That is why I would like to urge you to support the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act that will soon be voted on in the Senate. You are certainly aware that animals used in product testing are burnt, force-fed and otherwise made to suffer unimaginable pain.

In the 21st Century, it is astounding that chemicals are still being tested on animals when more humane alternatives now exist. Furthermore non-animal methods allow chemical ingredients and mixtures to be tested more rapidly than tests involving animals. They are also more effective at ascertaining human reactions to products and at improving safety for the general public.

Please support a kind future for animals and vote “yes” on this new bill.

  1. Wendy Morrison says:

All animals should NEVER have any type of testing done to them and on them for any reason. This is ANIMAL CRUELTY at its best and is 100% WRONG!!!!!!!!

  2. End the use of live animals. — The use of animals is unnecessary, cruel, merciless, unconscionable & useless. — Most reputable institutions do NOT use live animals for research purposes. — There are other options, other programs — human-based methods to be used for your research — Pay a visit to PCRM — Please END the practice of using animals IMMEDIATELY and make the switch to other methods, as many reputable research institutions have.
