Target: Don L. Weiss, Jr., Mayor of Dickson
Goal: Do not massacre the ducks and geese that call your town’s lake home.
City officials have called for the massive extermination of wild ducks and geese that call the city’s Luther Lake home. This extermination is scheduled to take place in the spring and summer of 2016 in Dickson, Tennessee, so we must act now to prevent this horrific massacre from happening.
The extermination schedule was chosen because the ducks and geese are molting during these seasons and cannot fly away to safety. Once they are captured, they are hauled off inhumanely, terrorized. It is unclear how the animals are exterminated, but the entire ordeal is unnecessarily cruel and an ineffective waste of city resident tax dollars.
Once these ducks and geese are rounded up and killed, more will take their place, as the lake provides a natural reserve filled with resources the wild animals need. Dickson residents have stood up against this proposed measure, but the city has indicated that it is moving forward.
Stand beside Dickson, Tennessee residents and stop this planned capture and massacre of wild ducks and geese.
Your Mayor Weiss,
I am shocked to read that despite your citizens’ protests, you are moving forward with capturing and exterminating wild ducks and geese that call your city’s Luther Lake home. As proven numerous times in the past, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services extermination program is cruel and ineffective. You would have these ducks and geese captured, tortured, and killed, only to have more replace them. What an inhumane act you are proposing, as well as a waste of your citizen’s tax dollars.
Do not move forward with this massacre in 2016. This will only prove that you have zero concern for the wildlife that naturally call your city home and, I might add, have called it home long before you did.
